Threadworms :-/

So we found out that we have an outbreak of threadworms, we have 4 children and 3 out of the 4 definitely have them.

I've read that cleaning with antibacterial wipes aren't affective against the eggs, what is affective at getting rid of them?

Anyone got any tips on how to get rid of them fast! 🙈

Ovex for everyone. Wear pants at night, wash all bedding, hoover

Baker10 · 02/11/2019 23:41

Thankyou, what shall I wipe the toys etc with? It says online that antibacterial wipes don't get rid of the eggs

What sort of toys? You could machine wash soft toys and wash plastic stuff in the sink.

Baker10 · 03/11/2019 10:03

The plastic musical toys? I've put all of the others in the bath and washed them

Damp wipe them with a cloth and rinse the cloth often with hot water. I don't remember going overboard with cleaning everything tbh

Phew, ok Thankyou! I was going a bit ocd!

I would treat whole family once and again two weeks later.

Baker10 · 03/11/2019 15:47

We treated everyone but my 20 month old has a live one in his nappy and we all still have symptoms after 3 days but doctor wants us to wait until 14 days to treat again 🙄

It takes a few days for them to die as ovex starves them of sugars so the effects are not immediate. I'd give it a few more days to work

Hot wash (60 degrees) sheets, towels, undies and flannels. If you have toddlers or small children, clip their fingernails because they may scratch while in bed/asleep.
Clean under their nails before eating.

It's been 7 days since we took the Ovex , our symptoms subsided on day 3 and then day 4 all itchy first thing and every day. I've got a 16,8,21 month and 9 month old and my 9 month old has been up crying every hour , every night since we gave her the Ovex, my other little one isn't sleeping well either

Did the gp prescribe ovex for the under 2's as its not licensed for that age group?

Baker10 · 03/11/2019 20:03

Yes they did so they've both had 5ml each, same as us. The doctor said they can prescribe it for age 6months plus but a bit worried that she's waking up lots crying, she's so tired. She might have a bad case of it and the meds have disrupted thing, looking back I must of had it myself before I had her 🙈. Think I'll call the doctor though if she's still not settling over the next day or so
