DC with chilblains

Hi All
Looking for some advice please. My 3 year old DS has bad chilblains. He’s been seen at the hospital and has had blood tests as the doctors were quite concerned as it’s very rare to get them so young. We moved to the UK from Spain last October which is when the chilblains started . Anyway , anyone have similar experiences with children ? Were there any underlying reasons for them ? The only thing he can do according to consultant is take medication if pain is severe but these come with nasty side effects. He doesn’t seem too bothered but I’m struggling with what footwear to put him in , he doesn’t like clumpy so any recommendations please? Thanks ever so much for reading

@Olive87

My DD (who is late teens now) has always suffered with chilblains. Think keeping feet warm and dry best prevention-although she has already had some this autumn.

My family-DM, DSis and I- all have Raynauds and there are links between the two.
I think hereditary and bad luck are the reasons.

Thanks for your reply mumsie yes my MIL has Raynards so they do think he might have that . Yes he’s already got a few and we are still only in October! I’ve made the drastic purchase of toddler ugg boots last winter but they now don’t fit, very annoying!

@Olive87

Thats annoying but at this age I'd not buy the real thing-plenty of warm cheaper options. I'd get very warm, fleece lined, waterproof boots for outdoors in the winter. Somehow the damp cold worse for her. Thermal socks good too.

Chilblains are very sore and itchy and miserable-DD not always terribly sensible but at least at this point you are relatively in control!!
Good luck!

Mumsiedarling thank you! Yes I’ll certainly be getting a cheaper option this year , trying to find something suitably fleece lined yes. Great I’ll get some thermal socks too thanks. Did you use and particular cream? I haven’t been given any recommendations from doctors about creams but have been using sudocreme. Thanks again mumsie
