DS 11 and still wets bed but only *occasionally*

Not sure what to do really. DS is turning 11 soon and still wets the bed, but only occasionally. It seems to come in waves and often when we are travelling / have been out late (so I suppose he is over tired). I think it often happens as he is waking up but we usually don't know about it until the morning.

All the advice I've found is directed families where teh child is wet the majority of the time. For DS, he'll be dry for 6 months, and then have a spell of 3 nights in a week. The advice also says it isn't due to deep sleeping, but for DS there really seems to be a correlation between days when he has been over exerted and the nights he wets the bed.

We've not thought to go to the GP as it's so erratic but wonder what else we can do at this point.

(Also wanted to add that it really doesn't seem to be psychological as he's a pretty happy and contented and confident kid .)

Any ideas?

I don't have an answer, but have always found ERIC very helpful.

Following as dd (9) is the same. She went over a year without an incident then did it 5/6 times over the course of a couple of weeks. I also think it's when she's exhausted or slightly under the weather. I did get her tested for a UTI just in case but it was clear and the GP said to wait and see if it settled down again which it seems to have done. Our main issue is sleepovers and brownie camps and the like....

I second the ERIC website, fantastic. Ds was a regular bed wetter but it was because he didn't produce the urine production suppressant at night and we weren't prepared to medicate him all the time, just for trips away, nights in hotels etc.

I would take your son to the GP, you may get referred. But we monitored fluid intake and urine output and even tried the alarm which showed us exactly what time he was wetting the bed rather than when he woke up being wet. It didn't help in our case just scared the bejesus out of him, me and Dh!

I think the fact that you can see a correlation between over exerting and wetting may help you prevent it in future, but like I say, ERIC website is fab for information and help. They also have a helpline!

Some kids do, alas dd did, still does as a young adult. She's had tests and there's nothing actually wrong she just has a bladder and brain that make mistakes. I have a waterproof cover on her mattress and she does her own laundry

If it helps, my younger brother was like this, and wet the bed on occasion until he was in high school.

I don't know for sure when it stopped (he started dealing with it himself, discreetly) but I do know that it did stop.

Seeing the GP could be a good idea though, as it's the best way to get to the bottom of it.
