So I’m hospital doing a glucose breath test on ds. He’s had lots of issues. His baseline was 23, his first one half hour after the drink was 17 (waiting for the rest). I queried with the nurse who said she isn’t allowed to diagnose, I told her Iv had a lot of problems with the paed which has resulted in me complaining about the care he hasn’t given and said I doubt we will even get the results. She said, all I’ll say is a baseline over 20 is a positive result. Googling it says over 20 when you’ve had t glucose but his reading is LOWER after the glucose.

Does anyone know?

Is this to diagnose a digestion / metabolic problem? I think lots of people on here will be familiar with blood glucose testing re diabetes, but what you're describing isn't that. I think it's unlikely you will get usable info on the numbers via this forum unfortunately. It will require a medic to put together the symptoms and problems to date with the results of the test.

I think it is reasonable to make clear to the team that you would hope to discuss the results of the test with the responsible consultant before going home, or at least to have a timescale on when you will be followed up (as immediate interpretation not possible with all tests). You can ask for a clinic letter summarising the issues / interpretation to date.

If this paediatrician is taking your child's care forward your options are to work together to maintain a relationship, or if you have truly lost confidence with them to request transfer of care to someone else.

If you state to the on-duty medical team that you feel lost about what is happening so far, this can lead to someone helping you with interpretation of the situation to date, or a nudge of the relevant specialist, or honest acknowledgement that there is still lots of uncertainty - depending on what's relevant to the situation.
