Baby vomits after every feed

Baby is combined fed, every burp brings up milk- usually able to catch it in muslin cloth. When put down brings up even more milk, just now I've fed her, burped (milk all down my back and arms) then put her down in crib and she brought up more ended up having to change her grow bag and crib sheet.

Any way of stopping so much mess? We go through multiple clothes changes - me and baby

How old is she?

My baby is similar but has reflux. He's on medication which helps with the pain but we have to hold him upright for 20-30 mins after a feed and avoid any unnecessary movement. We also have a wedge under his cot so he is slightly elevated at night. It helps stop do much coming back up.

My baby is 4 weeks old and was a real puke risk as we called it after feeding and still is. We also try to keep her upright after feeding for 20-30 mins, depending on volume drunk. We burp several times during feeding too. We found if we lay her down or moved her to much after feeding we wood get projectile vomit.
We also changed her formula 9 days ago to a comfort version and she is less windy and refluxy now, find her generally more comfortable. It could be her little system is getting more used to the world or it could be all the above. Either way it will be a long time before I don't fear the projectile vomit and stop keeping her upright after feeding lol

Baby is 11 weeks. I've been told it's not reflux as it isn't projectile!

One of my friends had a baby that was sick after every feed, but nappies were fine and baby was putting on weight - it didn't stop until baby could sit up themselves and there seemed to be no obvious cause (sorry if that's not what you want to hear OP!)

My ds posseted loads for weeks on end, no discomfort and he gained weight well, just seemed to leak milk! We bought about a thousand muslins and used them all.

OohthatlovelyNigelfromBabyClub · 11/10/2019 09:31

It is reflux. She will grow out of it, but until then you can use thickened milk or gaviscon on prescription (beware constipation). Lots of muslins, upright for an hour after milk, half an hour after food, spare top when you go out, lots of spare bibs and mattress protectors... I could go on.
Dont burp her, sit her up and wait for the burp to come as my HV said burping them can make it worse.

Does she have a tongue tie?

The health visitor refered to my eldest ASA "happy puker" - she breast fed well, no bother, put on weight very well indeed, but non the less puked after every feed. She didn't care, never cried except when put down flat, it was just messy so I thought meh, doesn't matter, and carried her about 80% of the time and only put her down if she was happy to go down, never anywhere near a feed, coped with the sleep issues of not being able to put her down until an hour after a feed (luckily she learnt to roll early after which she was fine with being put down) and took multiple changes of clothes everywhere.

She's 14 now and her orthodontist has just said her tongue tie needs cutting! Should have got it done when she was a baby! I came to this board to post about it actually. Dc2 was the same but I thought it's fine, dc1 was fine... It was a revelation when dc3 never threw up after a feed and I never had to get us both changed in cafe toilets, at friends houses, at baby groups... No tongue tie!

Sorry didn't get notified of responses.

Baby has very slow weight gain (below .4%) and last few days has been crying screaming lots of vomiting so doctor prescribed something yesterday so will see if it helps with anything!

My ds (9 months) was exactly the same. He is better now because i changed to sma anti reflux milk, as well as the fact his milk has reduced. A sicky baby is so annoying, i feel your pain

FishGingers · 22/10/2019 22:47

Try SMA staydown if it still exists? My DD was like that as a baby and this was the only milk - recommended by the health visitor and GP that she did not throw up again.

She was the same, vomiting all the time, crying and not putting on weight. I very quickly got help, it was too scary to go on with anything else! Don’t worry about breastfeeding - get help now. She is probably crying, because she is hungry. It’s nonsense to say it’s not reflux, because it’s not projectile.

spinderella78 · 22/10/2019 22:50

We were told by baby didn't have reflux by the GP and Health Visitor as it wasn't projectile (despite changing him and me constantly!). It was reflux, immediately stopped once he was on medication prescribed by a paediatric doctor when he was not gaining weight.

He still has reflux at 6 years old!

hayley013 · 27/10/2019 02:40

I'd go back to the doctor, my dd was sick after every bottle, been upto 2 hours after a feed, not projectile though, and she was referred to a paediatrician who diagnosed reflux and luckily it was solved with gaviscon in her milk which thickened it ever so slightly.
