F'ing winter time!

My ds5 has done 6 months at creche as a baby, 2 years of nursery Sept 17 - June 18 and Sept 18-June 19. He's started primary school last month. The entire autumn through to spring he's ill with colds, coughs, chest infection, ear infection, HFM, had chicken pox, throat infections, viral rashes, and everyone keeps saying by the time he reaches school he'll stop getting sick so often cause his immune system will be built up.....
He's been in primary one for 5 weeks and already had a day off and looks to be needing tomorrow off because he's filled with cold and cough and has a mild fever at the minute.
During the months of May-August he's sick maybe once or twice total but from Sept to April he's sick every 2-3 weeks. The only winter he's been well was the winter he wasn't in any school/childcare setting.

I have health anxiety and this really drives me batty, I lose sleep, I'm irritable (with every one else, not with my son), I'm worried, I'm doubting decisions on his care etc.

Will it ever stop? Am I just destined to spend every term time filled with dread and snot.

For anyone wondering, we've been to gp ridiculous amount of times, and he's on a waiting list to have his adenoids removed since April last year but our local waiting time for non emergency surgery is 2yrs8months. And also so as not to drip feed, he has a poor diet due to asd/sensory issues but takes vitamins.

Thanks for any support in advance.

I'm sorry, it's so stressful when they're poorly isn't it? The unfortunate truth is that some people have weaker immune systems than others. I have a really pants one myself and it makes me gnash my teeth when some people on here say 'Getting ill, what's that? Oh yes, I think I had a cold 12 years ago...' I'm nearly always lurgified in one way or another.

Maybe your son's immune system will grow stronger as he ages? All you can really do is encourage hand washing, make sure he eats a healthy diet and gets plenty of fresh air and exercise. Some people swear by echinacea so that may be worth a try when he's starting to go down with something?

Sorry, I only just saw the bit about the asd and sensory issues affecting his diet? Would he eat blended veg in soup, or mixed in with pasta or potatoes? Would he drink smoothies or home made ice lollies?

Have you tried sambucol? My little boy was much like you describe for his first two winters but I dosed him up with that last winter and he only got really poorly in march when I stopped it. Maybe a coincidence but if worked for us.

Thank you for replying, it just makes me so down at the thought of what's ahead for the next 5-6 months because I know how much anxiety and stress it's going to cause in the household, rearranging work for me/dh and losing sleep and constant worry. I know it sounds stupid over normal viral infections or minor bacterial one's but it's my health anxiety that makes me feel like I can't cope with the frequency of it, it's like there's no break.

He drinks smoothies sometimes maybe once or twice a week but no way of getting veg into him, he wouldn't touch soup and his pasta has to be completely plain not even sauce. He doesn't eat any meat except sausages, no chicken, turkey etc.

snazzygoldfish I've never heard of that, just had a quick Google and I've got a Holland and barrett near by who sells it so I'm gonna try and go today to get it. At the minute he just takes a standard multivitamin. Previously I had him on abidec and I felt it was shortening the length of the illnesses but not changing the frequency but then they changed the main ingredient in that one and the new version didn't make a difference so that's when I changed to the gummy bears.

Also, would you keep off school for runny nose, wet cough and mild temps of 37.5 - 37.9? Or give calpol in morn and send him in? Before in nursery since it's not compulsory I never cared about keeping off but now he's in primary school and already had a day off so far, I'm worried attendance could be awful between now and January 😣. He can't/won't clean his own nose properly and just let's it run and then uses sleeve to wipe it all over his face 😭
