Teething cause bad nappies?

Kimmyx · 04/10/2019 08:25

Not sure what to do as my 10 month old is fine in herself but she’s got vile leaking nappies that contain a lot of undigested food.

Usually she will be dry during the night but me and my partner are getting up during the night to change her. Usually to find she’s leaked out on to clothes/her bed sheet. The joys

Never had this as a symptom before but she is fine in herself I.e. her cheeky self, no temp and is eating/drinking

I’m just worried because it doesn’t look like she’s ingesting a lot of food and it’s been nearly 2 weeks of foul nappies.

Couldn’t see much advice online so thought I’d post here. Sorry if it’s the wrong section. TIA

Yes teething definitely causes foul nappies!
My DS used to get runny and grainy ones that smelled like stomach acid.
They can have mucus in them too so don't be alarmed if you see that too.

There's no cure really and don't worry about the food she's taking in just let her drink plenty of fluids.
For piece of mind you can always collect a stool sample (gross I know) and take it to your GP to rule anything else out but it sounds pretty normal to me.

My little one has had and currently has bad nappies that I'm sure are down to teething as he's fine in himself. I've heard of others saying the same....

Absolutely it can be teething.
The amount of children I’ve known that have literally shit to their shoulders from teething is unbelievable.

I have always found teething cause the most awful nappies so perfectly Normal , obviously if it goes on for an extended period of time and no teeth appear or no other teething symptoms then get a
Doctors appointment

Oh god yes, DS is 14 and I still remember this! It's because they produce a huge amount of dribble and mucus OP, so that makes their nappies runny and horrible. Nothing to worry about but as always contact GP if it isn't clearing up as the teeth come in.

I’ve had a paediatrician swear blind that teething causes no other symptoms, but my youngest always got a temperature and foul “ mint sauce” nappies just as a tooth appeared.

TwatCat · 04/10/2019 09:19

Both mine had green and grainy looking vile nappies when they were teething too. Very loose and acidy like others have mentioned above. Agree with the poster who mentioned that if you are concerned to drop a stool sample in to GP but sounds normal to me. As an aside, both mine had a really bad chest with every tooth they cut too.

BillywigSting · 04/10/2019 09:25

Yep the worst nappies mine ever had were when he was teething (and the worst of those were when he was getting multiple back teeth coming through at the same time). Mine had a slight temperature too during the worst of it.

Incidentally, I got my wisdom teeth at the same time ds got his molars, and my guts were off too. I wondered if the pain (because it still hurts even with painkillers) has something to do with affecting digestion. It did make timing the calpol a doddle though, we both dosed up at the same times!

Everyone I've ever spoken to about it has said the same.

Buckets of whatever your favourite nappy rash cream is, plenty of fluids, frequent changes and dc will be fine

Kimmyx · 06/10/2019 09:32

Thanks for your replies!! Im creased at shit up their back. It’s so true and I can’t believe professionals disregard them as not being a symptom.

One of my friends said the acidity level in their saliva causes their wee/poo to burn the skin on contact so that’s why they get the nappy rash. Poor babies.

As from yesterday her nappies seem back to normal. Thank god!! I started to worry a little bit

That’s why popper vests roll down from the shoulders, so you don’t have to cover their heads in poop taking the vest off.
