Forehead laceration at nursery :(

Hi everyone,

This is my first post on the site, sorry if this has been covered before.

My little girl is 2.5 years and split her forehead open in nursery. She went to a plastic surgeon who was happy to steri strip it back together but I’m so worried about the scar :-( it’s around 3cm from her forehead to eyebrow.
I took the strips off today and i can only describe it was red and very dented :(
I know people may say “get over it, it’s a scar, she will have many more” I understand this, but it is so prominent on her face and it’s making me so upset.
We go back to the plastic surgeon in November
To see if she needs alternative treatment.
I have started trying to massage with aveno cream but she gets very annoyed and upset by it.
Has anybody else’s little ones had a similar injury, if so, what was the healing process like?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

X

I was pretty horrified when the steri strips all came off and the stitches had dissolved. It looked so raw and a mess. It was much easier to handle covered! But after a week it was a million times better. Then after slight improvements for a week or so more, I don’t really feel it looks any better for the past month and if anything it’s redder and bigger! It might be my imagination though. A friend did say that they get worse before they get better. I couldn’t massage it for a while as it didn’t look strong enough, probably had to wait 3-4wks but I don’t get the sense of it feeling stuck inside. But there’s no fat under the skin so it’s quite taunt. She doesn’t especially like the massaging but is ok about it. I’m with you about it just being so horrible to witness and deal with the aftermath. But so many friends have shown me their ‘non-existent’ scars that were major stitched up jobs as children. So am hopeful that it will fade a lot. Wishing your little one a speedy recovery. The first 3 weeks were the most scary but then it healed a lot and I felt more comfortable about it.

I would use it on its own because it forms a protective layer over the top while it works.. and it does work...I used it for major surgery scars on my child and it settled them down really well
