Hi, My little girl has already had snots, colds and coughs and a few days off at school and I suspect she will sadly have more days off as the winter arrives (kind of a sickly child like that) and the school already seems 'difficult'. I gave up my career to work from home to ensure my kids could take time off without stress...
Has anyone had anything similar problems so soon in the school year, shes only in year R. Any tips on my rights with the school as so hard to go to the GP every time she under the weather.... An info or guidance would be amazing! Thanks Smile

If you think she is too poorly to go to school, keep her at home. You cannot be fined until the term after she turns 5, and you do not need a doctors note either. To do so would be wasting gps time. My son was like this in reception year, thankfully he has outgrown it now and had 99% attendance last year. Think about it seriously, do you think that the teacher has time to care for your sick child? She is only 4 and cannot care for herself so keep her off. The school can act how they want, she is your child and it is your decision.

If the school give you grief, remind them to send round the standard letter that reminds parents to keep ill kids out of school. There are always parents who have work commitments that mean staying at home with a child is difficult (I am sypathetic...but) who send their kids to school full of a cold. Then, surprise surprise, loads of other kids get it and it then affects lots of other families. Some people need reminding not to be so selfish.

Also, get the flu nasal spray for your child as you don't want her to get flu if she's a bit run down. It is most likely just tiredness from school and interaction with a bunch of new germs from different kids and should improve.
