Sorry...this has probably been done to death but i need help! My child just started nursary, We cant get rid of headlice we wash EVERYTHING!!! Changed bedding, washed clothes coats, combs ect I'm hoovering like a woman gone mad! I last did a treatment a week friday, yet the following wednesday i found 1 live one on me and few eggs and lots of eggs on my child ( think they are eggs, they looks like little brown pods with a pointy bit) Treated again washed everything again and still getting these pod type things put of my childs, weve checked daily with the comb and still finding eggs! What is going on! Is this normal to do a treatment and then still comb out eggs?

People i need as much advice as tou can give me, im ready burn my house down.

TIA

You dont need to do all the washing. What are you treating with? Stuff that suffocates them is best and then you should ideally comb with conditioner every few days for 3 weeks as that is the life cycle of head lice. Keep hair tied back too

whymewhyme · 02/10/2019 20:50

We first used the lyclear shampoo one but it was rubbish so we got the lyclear one the suffocates them. Is it normal to still be getting them while conditioning and combing the hair? Thanks for your reply

In thought you needed to do two treatments. One to kill the lice and then again when the remaining eggs have hatched to kill the rest before they lay more eggs.

Passthecherrycoke · 02/10/2019 20:56

Yep you need 2 treatments a week apart. In between you need to conditioner and not comb the hair every night to get the lice and eggs out. And you need to treat the whole family (well, we don’t treat DH who has a buzz cut or the baby)

Passthecherrycoke · 02/10/2019 20:57

They’re not spread via your sheets or clothes or brushes. You still have them because you had eggs that hatched after treatment 1. That’s why treatment 2 a week later is needed, and the combing inbetween

I think you need to calm down and read some objective practical advice about head lice.
First of all, they don't live off site. So all that bed linen angst is a waste of time
Second, know your enemy. The little brown eggs are probably dead uns.

Best defence in my experience is removal. Regular condition and combing with a nit comb.

nitty gritty comb, plain conditioner to which you add few drops of tea tree and neem oil. Comb daily. Add the above to a sprayer with water and spray each morning too as a preventative.

Don't waste your money on the treatments. Just comb and comb and comb.

Use Hedrin.

Combe through hair. Pick out anything untoward.sitting in sunlight helps)

Repeat as necessary.

Use lavender oil/spay on her pillow- not too much.

Tie hair up and ask for other parents to be informed.
