How much spend on kids party presents?

I have two children both at primary school and regularly are invited to class mates birthday parties.
Im wondering how much others generally spend on birthday presents?
I thought £10 was about right but as my children getting older in school now im noticing the presents they receive are more about £15. Some have been £20-£30 which i thought was OTT.
What do u normally spend?

A tenner sounds about right unless they're a special friend maybe?

Soulstirring · 29/09/2019 09:51

£10 is reasonable

I’ve recently noticed the jump from £10 to £15 too. May be an older child/affluent area thing though. I wonder if my previous £10 presents have looked stingy Blush

For primary school parties up to a tenner. If I can find something they'd like for around a fiver then I'd go for that.

Now that ds1 is in high school there are far fewer "parties" and he'll have his own opinions about what his friends would like so we do sometimes spend closer to £10/15.

We usually spend £10 but as they have gotten older and have more 'special or close' friends then for the it's gone upto £20

£10....now older (but still in primary) it's £15 for some close friends

£10 seems more than enough for a primary school party.
I think some savvy shopping could be at play? My DC received a gift that retails around £50, & I felt awful because it seemed so unnecessary, thankfully the mother is down to earth & admitted that she got it on offer for £15 from TK Maxx, still very kind & I didn't feel so guilty for only spending £10 on her child🤦🏼‍♀️

I pick stuff up in the sales for my present box so usually manage to spend £8-£10 on something that was £15 full price. It does mean everyone gets fairly generic presents!

jessyjo2 · 30/09/2019 00:02

Thanks all. So think will stick to £10 but if bit older and close friend I will go £15. Part of me doesn't want to b tight but another side is if others want to splash the cash thats fine, let them spend away!

£10 normal though I noticed my son started giving £15 after y8. Son says cash always but my daughter (14) has only started giving cash now.
Parties really die out and it’s just a few kids going off somewhere on their own now, or teenage party...
