My boy hasn't had a dummy for about 2 months now and since we have noticed he has quite a pronounced lisp. It is very slushy and it's like he has lots of saliva when saying S. Anyone else encountered this and is he too young for speech therapy?

At this age I wouldn't worry. My lg could not make an s sound at all until she was about 4 and then all of a sudden it just happened. My lb has just turned 3 and I'd exactly the same. I would mention it to your health visitor, but would not worry too much. Their speach is still changing so much at that age.

My son had a lisp and went to speech therapy. I can't quite remember how old he was but think he was probably around 4. It really worked well and I was amazed at how quick his speech changed.

Thanks for the replies. I've done some research and some lisps are developmental while others aren't and are not going to go on their own and will need speech therapy, hard to know which type he has. Information did say that it's usually around the age of 4 that treatment would start as by that age things should have corrected themselves and children are at a better age for cooperation if therapy is needed.

For just a lisp I wouldn't see a 2 1/2 year old. I would only recommend treatment from about 4/5, if it persists.

Show me a 2.5yr old with no lisp! All mine have had one. So cute.
