Head twitching in 4 month old

Hi, I was wondering if anyone would (hopefully!) be able to put my mind at ease or if their experiences with this, since google is telling me worst case scenarios!

My DD is 4 months old and for as long as I can remember twitches her head forwards in her sleep. It doesn't appear to be infantile spasms as none of her other limbs twitch with it.

The best way I can explain it is she literally just stretches her neck forwards slightly whilst asleep.

Anyone know what this could be? Should I be worried? Anyone else's babies do/did this and are fine?

Thanks!

Funny movements in babies are quite common. Reassuring factors here are the fact that it's confined to sleep, and you don't mention any other associated symptoms or developmental worries.
As you mention, infantile spasms are the rare but serious condition we'd worry about in this age group so if the situation changes and you become worried it would be reasonable to get the baby checked out.

It doesn't need to include limb movements to be Infantile Spasms. But if they are doing it whilst already asleep I'd be less worried. If they are doing it in the cusp of sleep then it could be and you would need to go to a&e

Seizures are common when drifting into and out of sleep but do not normally occur during deep sleep. So falling asleep and waking up are key times so if you see a pattern get your little one checked out.

Video it and ask your GP's opinion.

bloodywhitecat · 29/09/2019 23:55

I mean video an episode, sorry that sounded rude.

(I am distractedly waiting to hear if my adult daughter is OK, she's being blue lighted to hospital with yet another asthma attack, and I am not concentrating properly)

Biggie123 · 30/09/2019 00:04

Videoing it and taking that footage to your GP sounds like kind good advice
@bloodywhitecat I hope your daughter is ok and that you get some news very soon

paradyning · 30/09/2019 00:25

@bloodywhitecat Thanks
Yes video. But if you suspect IS at all then skip the GP and go to a&e. IS is a medical emergency.
But as you said 'in sleep' it seems less likely so GP sounds good.
