Which vitamins?

Which vitamins do you buy for your 3 year old DC? DS used to have kids syrup from 6 months up until a couple of months ago, usually mixed in his yogurt. I thought I'd switch him to something he takes separately as its more convenient. The first ones I got were like hard pills you had to suck, not surprisingly he didn't like those. So I tried the chewy gummy bears, but he doesn't like those either! Is there anything else worth trying or go back to the syrup?

My ds is 11 and still takes syrup. I take it too. Have never found a good alternative. Sorry that's not very helpful.

I don't give my toddler vitamins but she does still have BM and she's pretty good with veg and fruit
Why do so many people give them vitamins?

Advice from dietitian for my ds. Unfortunately he has an eating disorder. The one year I didn't give him the syrup he got a really bad chest infection. Probably coincidence but I make sure I give it to him and he never got that ill again and got him assessed by dietitian who worked out what vitamins he needed.

Thank you everyone! I think I'm going to go back to syrup, it's been a couple of months since he had a regular vitamin and with the cold weather I don't want to risk it. He has a pretty good diet but like most toddlers it's hit and miss, and he's not great on veg.

Think we used bassetts jelly ones when mine were younger. Its advised to supplement vitamins A,C and D until age 5, @Jesse70

Yeah she's a good eater so she's covered
I just think people worry and I always just assume it's recommended because alot of kids don't eat alot or well wether it's the kids or sometimes it's a lack of education in parents but surely as long as they eat enough of healthy foods they are covered
Seems pointless giving vitamins just because

It's hard to get vitamin D from food alone. At this time of year it wont be produced from sunlight either

We use the Bassets multivitamins. My children like them. The main vitamin they need is vitamin D but I believe A and C are recommended too.

In fact we all need vitamin D in the U.K. in the winter because the light isn’t good enough. Even more so if we don’t go outside much, wear clothes that cover a lot of our body, or have darker skin.

Thank you everyone, yes children definitely do need to take vitamins, not everything can be absorbed from food and that's even when you can get them to eat well! I just don't think he likes the chewy texture, but I could give the bassets a go, or otherwise it's back to syrup. He's had plenty of sun this summer but now the weathers closing in I need to get on top of it.

It's advised by the NHS because not all kids can or have a good diet yes some have medical reasons which mean they can't absorbe certain vitamin's etc but the average good eater who gets sunlight can get all their vitamins without supplements

When I say lack of education I mean parents who believe eating MacDonald's and drinking fizzy sugary drinks are healthy because they don't know any better I wasn't having a go at anyone just stating some people just don't know how to live a healthy lifestyle

And some parents choose to raise thei kids Vege or vegan obviously they need to supplement with vitamin B12 I understand that I just think there not always necessary and pointless for alot of kids

It's not just kids though re vitamin D as it is hard to get through food alone. NHS advises everyone should probably take vitamin d in the winter months

But since it's difficult for people to get enough vitamin D from food alone, everyone (including pregnant and breastfeeding women)should consider taking a daily supplement containing 10 micrograms of vitamin D during the autumn and winter

I use a spray from Amazon for Vitamon D, here, much easier to get down them than tablets or gummies.

It's in alot of food of you know what to eat especially since cereals are fortified

I gave my DD it last year as I was worried she wouldn't get enough then I did a bit of research so I know she's getting enough
I am a redhead so I've never worried about it before but she isn't

Jesse70, I wasn't asking for advice on whether to give them to him, I've already decided a long time ago to follow NHS guidelines. Ilikeyourhairyhands thank you that's brilliant, might just go with that!

I wasn't advising you not to everyone does what is best for their kids
I just wondered why so many people do that's all so thought I would ask whilst u brought the subject of vitamin's up
