Poorly baby

Baby is 4 weeks old. He has been wheezy and has been grunting as if he has been mucusy for about 2 weeks now. I took him to the see the doctor yesterday after he choked on some mucus he brought up and she said that she thinks its a viral infection. She said that he has to fight it off on his own.

Today he’s been much more sleepy and he’s quite sweaty. He won’t lay on his own and will only stop crying when being held by myself or my partner which is why he might be sweaty although his forehead feels fine, if anything, quite cool. He just doesn’t seem himself. I’m a first time mum and I’m so worried about him. Is this normal behaviour with a viral infection? How long do they take to fight off? 😓

My baby girl had a cold at 3 weeks old and it lasted just over a week.
Unfortunately theres nothing you can do except wait for it to pass - i know the breathing sound scary but try not to worry too much (easier said than done)
She then got another cold a a few weeks later :(

With such a small baby, if you are worried call 111 for advice and an out of hours appt. Doesn't matter that you saw the doctor yesterday. No one will mind, babies can't tell you how they are feeling.

I called 111 as his stomach starting pulling into his ribs when he was breathing. They sent out an ambulance and the paramedic checked him over and said all looks ok but the soft part on his head looked slightly dipped so he might be dehydrated. They've sent me to the out of hours doc and I'm just waiting to be seen now xxx

Hope you and your baby are ok. You did the right thing calling for help. Flowers

Sweaty, cool, sleepy - at 4 weeks old that needs seeing by an expert. I suspect OOH will have taken one look and said take to A&E / referred to paeds, mainly on the basis of age.

Hope it isn't anything too serious and just something that needs a bit of time.
