seeing things (with fever)

My poor little love has been feeling terrible today. Spoke to NHS earlier (was worried as he was insisting in being in the dark as the light gave him a headache) who said should be fine to wait til morning to take him to the doctors. He has a high fever and is feeling pretty crappy.
He's just woken up absolutely distraught as he could see something (that wasn't there) that was terrifying him. Took some time to calm him down again and convince him he was safe. He was definitely awake. He seems less confused now and has said he could see something but he knows it was in his brain, but it was very scary.
I don't need to call NHS again do I? Sorry if this is a silly question. I don't want to waste their time but also I get extremely anxious when DC are poorly and would hate to leave it and then he gets any worse. That episode has just freaked me out a little.

Hi, I would definitely call 111 and ask for an appointment at your local urgent care centre ASAP, or similar. With those symptoms- avoiding bright lights, fever and hallucinations I would want checking out in case of meningitis. Mention on the phone that you are worried about meningitis and hopefully that will help get you seen IYSWIM? I would definitely want a medical professional to examine just to be safe. Don’t want to frighten you, it’s just ringing alarm bells for me and better safe than sorry. Good luck OP.

Depends how old he is? Feverish weird dreams are quite normal.

Good point about fevers and weird dreams- I hadn’t thought of that. It’s the avoiding lights which is ringing alarm bells for me though. But I’m not a doctor.

weird dreams when feverish are extremely common. The fact that he is with it enough to know that it is a dream that feels a bit too real suggests that it is just fever. And hating light isn't uncommon.

When I was a child with a temp above 40 degrees mum came upstairs after hearing a noise to find me stood on the head board. When she asked what I was doing, I told her I was going for a fly round the room and then was going to have a walk on the ceiling.

I don't know what happened after she persuaded me back to bed - but she did sleep in my room that night - moving my sister into her brothers bedroom

I remember hallucinations when i was ill as a lg. They were very vivid but definitely get him checked out.

When my son has temperatures he gets night terrors. It's like he is awake and is seeing things that really scare him. My husband was the same as a child and still gets weird, vivid dreams when he is poorly.
The light thing is a bit of a worry so I would def go and get checked out.

A child / baby who doesnt like light with a temperature....
And 111 told you to wait til morning.

They are two signs of meningitis!

I used to do that. I can remember dinosaurs walking round my room when I had tonsillitis once.
Dd1 also did, and not with a very high fever either. She was convinced there was a cat's tail (no cat) following her around once. Dd2 used to get far higher temperatures without them, so it obviously depends on the child.

The dislike of lights is the main worry. Whilst not purely a meningitis flag (I've had headaches that make me want to avoid light) it's always worth being cautious.

The fever dream itself is very common. I have insane dreams when I'm ill.
