Recurrent uti in boy

Hi! My son had recurrent uti's from age 2 to 5 (about 7 infections) and was seen at the hospital. Scans looked like all was fine and when the uti's cleared up age 5, he was discharged. He's now 7 and has another, quite bad, uti.

He is always ill with constant colds and has had swollen glands I'm his neck since age 4 or 5, and all over his body for the last year or so. Doc doesn't seem bothered about the glands.

I just feel something isn't right with him, but don't know what.

What could be going on? Any ideas? (he also has motor stereotypies, not sure if related. I think not?)

Can anyone help? Where should I go from here?

Does he pass urine normally? Any wearing of nappies? Only ask because it may be causing reflux? Has he had a VCUG?

Which glads are swollen? Any of them sore?

Is it always a UTI? What are his symptoms

Hi BabyST

Used to be just glands in neck ok on one side which were swollen, now it's often everywhere, groin, arms etc.. Ones in neck are ALWAYS there, have been for a few years now :(

His UTI symotoms are always the same - irritability, temperature and wetting the bed. This time he also had pain in his sides, sickness, so think had gone to kidneys. He's been uti free for 2 years and hasn't wet the bed for 2 years consequently.

He has a weird breathing thing he does, where he sounds out of puff. Doc can't hear it and says he's fine, but he's super fit (swims, football, gym etc..) so I think that's why she's not concerned.

He's pretty skinny - probably because of the sport.

He has only had about 3 weeks over the last year when he's not be ill (mainly colds, and viruses)

(He also has these.motor stereotypies - only when he's excited!! Hand flapping wriggling hands, facial contortions. It's quite sweet, but I do worry why he does them. He's not autistic but his movements are like those of someone with autism)

Sorry typo - glands in neck on one side...

BabyST · 13/09/2019 13:05

Firstly with the breathing. Gp isn't concerned. Have they seen it? Next time try video it and show them?

Sounds like a complicated one. His glands are they always swollen or just with infection. It's going to be normal for to swell with infection but if it's constant could be a number of other things.

I'm no expert - I am a mum to 12, 15 and 20 year old boys who have been through a lot so just trying to help x
