DS tummy pains

Bloomburger · 11/09/2019 07:47

DS is 14, nearly 15, he keeps, since Sunday night, complaining of a pain just above his tummy button to the right (his right). Says the pain's about an 8 on a scale of 1-10 but it's not constant and although it put him off food for one meal but he's eaten fine since, has been going to toilet as normal all bar once when it was more urgent than usual. It's not exacerbated by movement.

He's been back at school a couple of days, he's flying at school, loves it so no problems there.

Messed about with rugby ball with DH and DD so DH thinks it's from kicking a rugby ball but I'd think this would be more constant.

Would you take him to doctor? Our doctor is good when you get to see them but they've staff training today and DS isn't home till 6 so I know it means either cancelling clients this morning and hiking over to other side of county to get him, going to sit in A&E with him tonight it coughing up for a private appointment.

He reckons he's fine and can wait till tomorrow but I know I'll just be panicky all day.

Is it something serious it could be that means I should drive after his bus, pull him off of it and get him there today.

Had issues with his life being threatened last year and it's triggered dreadful anxiety around his safety and losing him.

Even writing that paragraph has made me cry. Please be kind.

So Upper Right abdo pain? Does the pain go anywhere else? What type of pain is it? Stabbing? burning? Crampy ect? How often does does it come and go?

Bloomburger · 11/09/2019 20:24

Crampy, not stabbing, intermittent, can be every hour or 5 minutes, he's 14, I may as well talk to the wall. Hurts more after eating. He's drank 2.5l of water today but still pee v yellow.

We just waiting call back from out of hours so I presume will be spending the better part of the night in our local emergency department.

Any pain peeing? Although at the front I wouldn't personally think it's water works related. Hurts more after eating sounds could be gallstones. Has he been sick? Does the pain get worse or after a poo. Have a feel of his belly and see if it's hard or tender. If it's all fine then should put you at ease. Has he got his appendix? Any fever?

Are you in the UK? So I guess you've called 111. They are usually pretty slow getting back to you. Think it's up to 4-6 hours for a HCP call back.

There's also a good app "Synptomate" age wise goes to 18 but may help you with ideals of what it could be. Just remember it's a guide.

Any chance it's his appendix grumbling? It doesn't always start out as doubled over agony with vomiting, it can sometimes build up over a few days even weeks.

Bloomburger · 12/09/2019 10:00

Thanks guys, we waited for a call for 12 hours from 111 yesterday and after spending 30 minutes and over 100 calls finally got through to doctors and he has an appointment this evening.

No pain peeing but wee v yellow, hurts when pressed, he's not eating half as much as he usually would but drinking lots more. He is managing school and sleeping ok when medicated. No signs of infection, swelling, fever etc.

I did think gallbladder too. We'll see, feel bit less anxious now have an appointment. Our doctors have just merged with another practice and it's almost impossible to get an appointment now. I can see why A&E is bloody packed these days!

Will update.

Lots of wee & lots of drinking water and a tummy ache were dd's symptoms before being diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. The eating less doesn't fit in though...

Nogodsnomasters · 12/09/2019 21:21

Oh another thing it could be is a hernia, has he been doing any heavy lifting recently?

Rugbymumof2 · 12/09/2019 21:24

Any update Bloomburger?

Just read this and thought appendix, DD had hers removed about 5 wks ago, had some on and off pain but one evening after eating it suddenly got worse.

Hope you got some answers from the appointment

Bloomburger · 13/09/2019 17:37

Dr thinks ongoing low level tummy bug🙄. Whatever that means. We have stopped him chugging gallons of milk every day and he is on probiotics and prebiotic for a couple of weeks.

He's sent a stool sample off just in case it's anything public health England need to know at?

Thank you for holding my hand, I think both he and I have a bit of health anxiety and I know I have issues with regards to thinking I'm going to lose one of them.
