Flu Vaccinations for under 4's?

I've just had the letter home from my 7 year old DS school with the Flu Vaccination form. I filled it in and sent it back next day. They only offer it in his school from Reception - Year 6.

My 3 Year old is in the Nursery, and it says on the NHS website - and in the booklet ds brought home "Flu Vaccine is offered free each year to all 2 and 3 year olds on the 31st August of the current Flu season", "Primary school children" and "Over 65's".

I just rang my surgery, and the Receptionist was baffled that I'd requested it for a healthy 3 year old. She said "Is his health compromised in any way?" and was very short with me. I did explain to her what the website and booklet says. She says they have only recieved the vacs for the Over 65's, and healthy children shouldn't need it Confused ?!

Any thoughts/experiences?

She’s a receptionist not a healthcare professional. I’d call back and ask for an appointment.

Mine was exactly the same last year. Made it out that I was unnecessarily trying to protect my child. Same with the second MMR dose, parts of our borough vaccinated early but my GP practice won’t.

Following. I think it’s a nasal spray at that age. It’s given mostly to prevent the spread of flu because preschoolers don’t have the best personal hygiene.

My DD has just turned 4 and in Reception but has had the nasal spray for the past 2yrs via the nurse at the surgery.
I'm assuming this year it will be via the school.
