Hi I had another thread about this . Well sort of , it's related but different at the same time.

Dd2 has had molloscum for God must be 2 years now . Most of that time it's been uneventful.

Last few months however

Started off with spots becoming inflamed and weepy. Treated originally with sudecrem and tea tree oil but didnt help enough so ended up with an anti biotic cream. All good. Spot cleared up. Have had others flare up similarly but not quite so bad . Broke out the cream and for the most part it sorted it. besides some nasty purple patches that seem to just remain now even though the spot has healed/gone/shrunk one of the three..

But now on top of this we have a third issue. One of the spots became a large infected swollen boil. Off to the drs we went again after cream didnt help. This time we came away with 10 days of anti biotics . 10 MLS 4 times a day for 10 days. Seemed to help the boil shrunk became alot less red and angry . Molloscum spot on the top remained present.

Finished course must have been 2 weeks ago give or take a few days and today I notice the same one is flaring up all over again in the same way. And theres a second somewhere else also now red sore inflamed.

My question is this really, that as it's the molloscum causing the whole thing and drs refuse to treat molloscum as theres nothing they can do. Is dd gonna have to spend the next 2 years repeatedly on anti biotics as each and every spot does this or is there actually something more they can do?

This boil is in exactly the same place as before and if anti biotics and antibiotic cream wont properly shift it and the molloscum isnt going anywhere then wtf do we do? Sad

Tia

That's a bit strange usually once some get infected your body goes "oh I have molluscum, better deal with that"

We popped the infected ones and it all cleared up...

SarahTancredi · 07/09/2019 19:18

That doesnt seem to be the case here...

The big one was the one that flared up and needed the cream first.i hoped that that would be the trigger.

Instead we still have more spots flaring up, even the spots that have ruptured and flattened dont seen to all have healed. Some have gone. Some have just flattened but are still there just flat against the skin and kinda wrinkly , some are just purple patches and now theres these secondary infections or whatever they are.

Its getting worse not better

I would ask for a 2nd opinion and push for a referral to dermatology. Pointing out that what's going on is not normal...

SarahTancredi · 07/09/2019 19:27

Would they do that do you think?

I've been to the drs three times now and asked if they can freeze some off or if theres anything that they can do and they said no...

But it cant be best practise to be reliant on anti biotic cream ( which isnt even on repeat I have just been using and when it's gone its gone) and anti biotics....

I guess I'll have to get a bit firmer with them.

Sounds really frustrating for you and your DC. Molloscum is caused by a virus and does eventually go by itself but can take ages. Are the irritated ones on a collar/cuff line etc or anything obvious irritating them? I've heard that some people have used molludab which you buy from chemist - may be worth looking into?

SarahTancredi · 07/09/2019 19:39

Back of the knee. She wears a tubigrip over them to protect them do they dont rub. Her school trousers are quite soft as are the leggings she lives in. No lacy trim or "sharp edges"on underwear to be rubbing the other one.

It's a mystery really..

Its got infected with bacteria, MC is caused by a virus. With any luck though as the flare up has inflammation/ reaction around the MC it'll help mix into the body and cause an immune response, MC I think sits too far away from the blood etc to cause an immune response under normal circumstances so you may find them disappearing soon enough 🤞🏼 🤞🏼🤞🏼
What your problem now is the bacterial infection which needs attention - personally I'd be g

SarahTancredi · 07/09/2019 19:55

I'll give the drs a call again on Monday then

I wonder if it's too much to hope they will just repeat the anti biotics without having to go in...

Have they taken a swab? I think they need to see it because it's come back (non-medic here though)

SarahTancredi · 07/09/2019 19:58

Here's what it looks like. ( the shadow is me /my phone) You can see the where it's all red underneath. Its not as bad as last time yet but ..

My DD's MC got big, red looking and hideous towards The end - one burst and my husband picked one (ug! Did it before I could stop him!) but suddenly it started disappearing - hopefully your DD's will do the same

I've had molluscum with both kids - with one it got really bad and we ended up with dermatologist appointment. There are options but they are reluctant to do it on kids as it can cause some scarring. She did prescribe us hydrogen peroxide solution though which really helped clear up the spots. (It was a weak solution at a concentration the dr felt was appropriate- you can buy it from the chemist but it's usually too strong a solution). If they are infected again you do need to keep seeing a dr so that they can monitor it.

SarahTancredi · 08/09/2019 09:54

I think we are beyond worrying about scaring now. They seem to be scarring anyway. Sad

OP posts:
LiveRightNow · 08/09/2019 14:17

OP the scars do fade a bit. I thought the same but you can't see them at all on one child now and on the other child they are almost faded. So you never know. Felt like they had them forever though. Originally we were told it would be 6mths ish for them to go but it was more like years than months. However if they keep getting infected I think it's worth asking about the dermatologist. Really helped.

Sukhbir2 · 08/09/2019 19:30

Child boy 9 year old has recurring marks on left side of face. Second time in a few weeks. Very geometric. Looks like imprint from a coat. More like a stamp than anything. Any ideas?

SarahTancredi · 08/09/2019 19:33

I am definately going to ask tonswe a dermatologist if/when she goes back to the drs.

I will see how it has gone with all the creams in the morning as I'm.at work.today.

Would hydrocortisone cream be of any use does anyone think as I have some of that too?

OP posts:
MakeLemonade · 08/09/2019 19:37

Have you tried Molludab?

It got rid of both DDs and mine (😠) in quite short order - a couple of weeks.

SarahTancredi · 08/09/2019 22:41

No I haven't. The reviews seemed kinda50/50 and it was expensive.

The dr did mention it but couldn't say it worked ..

Might have to re consider depending on if we get the referral

OP posts:
HettyPain · 08/09/2019 22:45

We used molludab and it worked. The spots just kept spreading. It stung a lot at first, so it was hard to do, but the spots stopped appearing soon afterwards.

SarahTancredi · 08/09/2019 23:06

Would it be safe to use with anti biotics do you think? ( assuming shes likely to be given them again)

Or would it just contribute to another secondary infection while shes busy fighting this one?
