Hi, my 10yr old son is a keen footballer, back in March after a kick to the hip, he started to complain intermittently of pain. Then the day after a match, he was barely able to walk with pain near his hip. A and E xrayed him, all clear, and was told groin strain to rest.
He did, but the pain continued, we then saw a paediatric orthopedic specialist who ordered more xrays etc and said he thought groin strain too, advised rest and physio with gradual return to activity. Over past few months we have followed all advice etc but as soon as my son goes back to activity the pain comes back. The physio has been giving him exxercises and doesnt seem to really have much advice other than limit training.
A couple of weeks ago he started to fall over a lot, as if his legs would give way .Yesterday he woke with pain in his knee, no swelling, just unable to straigten the leg or put weight on it. The giving way was worse also. We went to the small injuries unit who said that he would need to be referred back to the specialist, which he has been, but this will obviously take time.
My son is such an active boy, it is taking a real toll on him, not being able to play football or join in with friends, hes worried about his place at the football academy and he seems really down. I felt so sorry for him limping in on his first day back at school.
Does anybody have an experience of anything like this please?

Has he been investigated for Perths’s Disease?

This obviously warrants further investigation and I'm in no way qualified to even guess what kind, but I am wondering if he's had his vitamin d levels tested? And don't go by UK guidelines if you find out what his levels are, they're way too low for adults and probably kids too. Hope you get to the bottom of it OP X

Hi, Perthe's disease, amongst others, was mentioned by the physio initally. Once he had, had x rays, he seemed happy that it wasn't anything like that and began to treat him for a groin injury.

He hasn't had any tests such as vitamin d levels or other, he does have a good diet, and up until this is otherwise healthy. But might be worth us getting them checked, thanks.
