Can anyone help me to order glasses online?

My DS wears glasses to correct a squint. He's about to start school and I'm conscious that we don't have a spare pair should he break them. I thought I'd order a pair online as it's cheaper than the opticians but I don't understand the different options when filling out the prescription details.
It asks for:
SPH
CYL
AXIS
ADD
PD

I literally have (for example) Left: +2.5, Right: +2.25

Any ideas please?!

Can anyone help me to order glasses online?

The prescription should be correct as not everyone has the "cyl" part which is for astigmatism (means your eye isn't exactly round and the light hits the wrong part of the back of the eye) The axis is only relevant if you have astigmatism too, but you need the pd measurement which won't be on your copy. It needs to be measured by an optician. This is only done at time of the dispense. This is one of the reasons buying online unfortunately isn't a good idea especially for a young child with a squint. Specsavers prices are probably the best but shop around, and you'll know they will be properly fitted and the measurements correct. Hope this helpsSmile

I'm not saying I don't trust NHS and of course they might find the same prescription after testing but what if they don't? I 100% trust our current consultant so what do I do if I do a High street test and they give a slightly altered prescription?!

Then they discuss with you and him which works better.

In your original post you stated two positive numbers, if that is your ds's prescription then you could get reading glasses from a chemist, which is the cheapest option but again these are glasses for adults.

There are good reasons why it is illegal to order glasses online for under 16s. Just go to an optician and get him a free pair or two.

Can you take the sunglasses and ask for the new lenses to be put in the sunglasses frames?

I’m sorry if you thought my reply wasn’t useful. I too have gone through this. I do known where you are coming from. I tried to get online prescription swimming goggles and found that it wasn’t going to work. So I paid for them at the optometrist. That’s another thing to think of, if your DC is going to learn to swim they will need prescription swimming goggles.

I was using specsavers for the glasses, but found the lenses weren’t always true, so I’m using the local independent and the prescription is spot on every time. I have to pay for the frames as the NHS voucher doesn’t cover the whole thing as it’s a complicated prescription.

Glasses have to be dispensed by a registered optician for under 16 year olds.
You can’t get them online.
I always hold spare frames for my children so you can just swap the lenses over if needed.
