Anyone have any advice or recommend anything that can be used on a 3 year old with severe eczema? Nothing doctors have recommended is working so far and we are at our wits end ! Thanks

It's best to get a dermatology referral from the go and see a dermatologist, GP did nothing to help my child's eczema

The only treatment I found that really worked for me (enough to eliminate the need for frequent use of steroid creams) is Eucerin lotion 10% urea. Urea seems to be the magic ingredient for my skin. Prior to that I'd tried various things at the suggestion of various GPs (double base, diprobase, E45, Oilatum, Aqueous cream, epiderm etc. etc.) which seemed to make little difference.

I don't know whether Eucerin is safe for young children but it could be worth a look.

As well as creams I would suggest the following:

100% cotton bedding and clothing

Try different washing powders to find the least irritating one for your DC's skin. Absolutely no fabric softener

Keep baths on the cooler side

Obviously no harsh soaps/bubbles in the bath (Oilatum Junior head to toe wash seems very moisturising compared to Child's Farm and Aveeno)

Dab skin gently dry after bath using a towel (don't rub, and ensure skin is dry before putting cream on - this last bit is different to a lot of official advise but if I put cream on my skin while still wet I get irritated red patches)

Avoid overdressing, particularly in winter

Drink plenty of water

If you do all of the above with no improvements, I would be considering food allergies and asking for referral for testing

I used ZeroBase on my son song it was the only thing that worked after trying God knows how many creams before that.

With my son it was a dairy allergy and within weeks if cutting dairy his skin dramatically improved and within about two months it was completely clear and we never had to use the creams again.
