Vomiting & Diarrhoea for over 2 weeks

Hi, so my son who will 7 soon has been vomiting and had diarrhoea for over 2 weeks now.

It started as being every 2nd night but since Monday it has been 2 or 3 times a day/night. We have taken him to the drs 3 times this week where he was given anti sickness tablets but they obviously haven't worked. Both dr's don't have any idea what it could be.

It's now at a stage where he can hardly keep fluids down.

We are still waiting on the results of his poo sample. He has also went from 4 stone 5 to 3 stone 7 in the space of 3 weeks, which the doctor doesnt seem to think is a concern??

He hasn't got a fever or any blood in his sick/poo is they aren't that concerned but he's in alot of pain once it starts and I don't know how to help him.

Any advice would be great.

I would be taking him to hospital as he will be dehydrated. That’s a long time for him to be so sick.

Where is the pain? Has he been able to keep any fluid down? What colour is his urine

Bless him x

Have they actually ran any tests? You have to be his advocate here. If it were you with these symptoms would you just 'let it run it's course' which is what I imagine they have told you you should do... Bloods and poo samples. You may not see blood in his poo... there could be traces anyway.

I'm jaded from my own recent experience where my son had salmonella poisoning but on presenting at A&E we were waved away and told there was no point doing any tests... No vomiting in our case, but there are many things this could be surely. I hope your boy improves soon. Good luck.

We took him to the hospital yesterday and they basically said the same thing. He's lost another 3 pounds and was told to avoid dairy. No dairy yesterday and he was violently sick all night again.

He is now in such pain that he's struggling to walk. Was also told he should be back at school.

I feel terrible because there's nothing I can do to help him?

In the middle of his stomach is where is feeling the pain mostly x

The dr at the hospital told us it could last another 2 weeks, the diarrhoea is now just basically green water.

He's also struggling to keep any fluids down especially at night x

They will brush you off until you INSIST on tests and precautionary measures. My son has an underlying condition which made this kind of thing particularly dangerous for him and they still wanted to turn us away. I was furious & demanded they start him on broad spectrum antibiotics... low and behold I was right and he did need them. I hate to think how long he would have suffered if I had not been so insistent.
Take him into hospital and give them hell.

If two or three independent HCPs have examined your child and said it's just D&V then I'm inclined to think it is.

Just keep pushing fluid regardless if it keeps coming out.

Never seen a stomach bug last for over 2 weeks, it could be food poisoning or helicobacter which I believe needs an antibiotic to stop it in its tracks. Go back to gp again and ask for a test for the latter. Have you had poo sample results?

nicoleferrari91 · 27/08/2019 21:13

His poo sample came back clear..Confused
He hasn't vomited since 5am Monday morning and has been eating well, hoping that it's the end of it now Blush

Well that's a good start. I hope it stays that way.

How is he today? Hope he’s keeping fluids down.
