Can teething cause diarrhoea?

DS is 5 months old and is mixed fed. He usually has one bowel movement a day but for the last few days it’s been more like 6/7 times a day and he is getting a bit of a rash. He is teething and seems to be in a lot of discomfort and drooling lots. He has been being a bit sick too but he has reflux so this is normal for him. He is fine in himself and not off his milk. Is this likely to be teething related? This has also coincided with him starting infant gaviscon but I thought that caused constipation not diarrhoea.

I think the increased saliva swallowing can affect their tummy, so it’s not unusual.

Yep. Used to happen to my little one. My friends’ babies would get colds, chest infections, all sorts of things when they were teething. It’s worrying at first but you soon get used to what is normal for your own baby.

Teething can make extra saliva which when swallowed can cause a stomach upset. So it definitely could be. However, as your baby is young and also being sick due to the reflux I’d probably check in with the HV just to make sure all is ok and no weight loss.

Im wondering the exact same thing... my DD is 3 months but i can see her front 2 teeth coming through. Shes had between 5-7 dirty nappies a day for the last 3 weeks!
They have lots of mucus in them and come out with some force!

Yes. Lots of extra drool being swallowed

It did with my three.
