Second MMR dose at 18 months

My local council give an accelerated second dose of the MMR to all children at 18 months rather than the usual 3 years. Bit weird, but their rationale is that take up is higher at this point. Our borough is also right next to the borough that has the lowest take up of the MMR vaccine in the country, so a lot of our children attend the same playgroups etc as those of anti-vaxxer parents, so it's a good idea all round.

Has anyone had experience of giving the second dose so young though? DS reacted quite badly to the first dose (high fever and a rash for nearly 2 weeks) so I'm dreading the next round. However I've heard the side effects aren't as bad?

Any experience / thoughts welcomed Smile

The side effects ste never s bad as whatever I'd bring vaccinated against.

If your health authority are doing this they will have good reading for it.

Speak to your health visitor who will explain and put your mind at rest.

Be minded that they want the least number of children to get any if the diseases so we should be grateful they are

Sorry about the spelling!!

Hi - there's no question that I'm getting him vaccinated, I'd far rather a bad week of side effects than him go down with the measles proper!

That wasn't my question though.

Must be had their second dose at 15 months which was the policy at the time (high risk area). Not problems at all and I was relieved they were fully immunised
