DS, short height

He wasn’t born early, he was on time. It wasn’t until he started school that we kind of noticed he was the smallest and has remained the smallest in his year. Some of his friends have younger siblings who are in years 2&3 & they’re all either the same height as ds or taller.

We don’t make an issue of it in front of him as he is sensitive about his height, he has been ‘picked’ on for it by his peers and it’s been dealt with, but it doesn’t stop them, someone will still have a dig at ds about his height. He’ll sometimes ask me when he’ll have a growth spurt so he can be as tall as his friends :(.

I have taken him to the drs twice in the past 12-18 months I think. think last time was about a year ago or just over. They measured him & looked at his red book. They said nothing to be too concerned about & that’s it. Ds is in the 25th centile.
His shoe size is a 1, his feet also seem to take a long time to grow in size too. His height measures around 128. So that’s 2cm more than when I first took him to the drs around 18mths ago. So he is growing as he outgrows his clothes, just at a really slow rate.

We love him just the way he is, if course we do, he’s very handsome, funny & smart, but I just can’t help thinking if there could be an underlying health problem, I’m scared if it gets missed & now him being 10, it would be too late to do anything. I get that he’s not going to be be 6ft tall as his dad isn’t very tall & i’m around 5’6. His sister seems to be average height, she was about the same as her friends growing up, she’s the same height as me now at 15.

Would I be unreasonable to take him back to the drs & ask for them to test for ghd (growth hormone deficiency) ?

@sparkla - are they thinking she's in puberty? It's interesting what different hospitals will do. My DS is 10 and 158cm tall, they've said he's definitely in puberty ( been saying it for the last year) but won't do any checks to check he's doing ok. We've just been told he probably won't reach the height he was potentially going to hit ( not necessarily a problem as that's 6ft 5!)

Watching with interest as DS1 is 9 and tiny. He still wears age 6 clothes and his brother is nearly as tall as him at 6. DS1 also asks me when he'll have his growth spurt, but I'm only just 5ft and his dad isn't tall. I've tried to let myself be guided by him, as in if he's not worried about it I'm not but now I'm wondering if I should do more. His school haven't raised it.

@namechangedforthis1980 yes absolutely there are physical signs; puberty is "normal" from 8 for girls and 9 for boys. There's talk of hormone blockers but I'm not too happy with that idea so at the moment we're being reviewed and scanned every six months (next one in a couple of weeks and it's me that's silently worried).

So will they do hormone blockers even though your daughter is now at the age that puberty is acceptable ? I've been looking into it but couldn't work that part out. We're due back at the next Endocrine app fairly soon so wondering if I should be pushing for more. They seem to be quite relaxed, but I can't help but worry about it!

@namechangedforthis1980 the consultant has basically said it's my choice as to whether to proceed with blockers but for no more than a year if we go with it. Although it's within normal he said it would delay things for her if emotionally she'd struggle. Still toying with it but will await next scan results.

25th percentile isn't very small. Confused.
How tall is his dad?
When will he turn 11yo?
You've already "taken him to the drs twice in the past 12-18 months " fretting about his height, he was checked and yet you still won't believe this could be his normal.

I'm leaning toward YABVU tbh.
