15 year old son unable to pee

Hi there, I'm new here.

My 15 year old son has difficulty having a pee. He said over the last hour he has to strain to pass urine and some times a bit comes out other times it's just dribbled. He says his the top of his penis is slightly sore.

Iv asked him has he been kicked or hurt himself down there in any way and he says no. Also when he manages to wee it's just white no smell.

Any tips on what it could be?

Most likely will call GP in morning.

TIA

Call 111 for medical advice, poor boy.

LoisLittsLover · 15/08/2019 21:11

Uti

funmummy48 · 15/08/2019 21:11

It sounds like a urine infection? I'd call the out of hours and ask for advice as that could become a lot more painful overnight. Sitting in a warm bath & attempting to pee in it might help.

Don’t leave it until the morning if he’s unable to pee at all, go to your nearest A&E

pepperpot99 · 15/08/2019 21:14

UTIs can become kidney infections pretty quickly.

Haworthia · 15/08/2019 21:16

Urine retention is serious. I wouldn’t wait for a GP appointment tomorrow if I were you.

111 for sure, get that checked out.

LeekMunchingSheepShagger · 15/08/2019 21:18

Being unable to pee is a medical emergency. He needs to go to a&e.

BabyST · 15/08/2019 21:18

Thank you! I'm going to try him in the bath first and see if he goes. He's going ish now but just a dribble. Now with pain on left side of belly.

Failing that then I'll call out of hours.

I did think urine infection but hasn't got any pain. Is he a bit young for a catheter?

As above acute urinary retention needs to be treated straight away. Good luck.

RedCowboyBoots · 15/08/2019 21:19

111 I think. He needs to be able to relieve the pressure in his bladder and may well need a catheter.

Haworthia · 15/08/2019 21:20

He’s 15, of course he can be catheterised if it’s medically necessary.

Don’t bother with the OOH GP - they’d send you to A&E.

MyDcAreMarvel · 15/08/2019 21:20

No not to young for a catheter.

RedCowboyBoots · 15/08/2019 21:20

They push the catheter up there to empty the bladder, then remove it after.

Haggisfish · 15/08/2019 21:21

A and e-sounds like nasty uti.

ThelmaDinkley · 15/08/2019 21:23

I’d get that checked out tonight. My dad had similar and it ended up being a nasty kidney infection and he was admitted to hospital. Hope you get him sorted.

JoanieCash · 15/08/2019 21:23

UTI or STI (sorry)

diet4eva · 15/08/2019 21:29

Please call 111 or go to a&e straight away. If he can't pee and his bladder ruptured he will be in a real mess!

BabyST · 15/08/2019 22:09

Thank you all. We are going to take him to A&E now. Bath hasn't really worked and pain is worsened. I'll update tomorrow x

Definitely a good thing / hope all goes well

MyRaGaiaStarFishPieA · 15/08/2019 22:24

Poor boy, you are doing the right thing getting checked out.

Haggisfish · 15/08/2019 22:32

Remember a phone charger, water and change.

endofthelinefinally · 15/08/2019 22:46

Pain on left side sounds like faecal impaction causing a blockage.
Hope they check that.
Poor kid. It sounds awful.

justasking111 · 15/08/2019 22:49

Oh poor lad. Had to take OH to hospital, broke the speed limit a few times, he was in agony. A catheter was such a relief he said.
