Teething @ 4m?

Baby girl is 4 months (17 weeks this week) and the past few days she’s been screaming crying. I think it’s teething but a friend has suggested to go get her ears checked, which of course I will but I’m getting a little worried with this crying. She’s beautiful and SO happy in the mornings but come 1.30/2pm she’s on and off crying. When she’s crying, she’s crying!! She sleeps the night around 9.30pm - 5.30am feed and then 5.45am - 8.30/9am (gets between 11-13 hour sleeps at night depending on times put down ect. Her naps during the day are a bit hit and miss right now as they’re broken. Sometimes naps last an hour/hour and half, some last 10 - 30 mins.

Now I know these aren’t always signs of teething as the massive one right now is dribbling ect but -

*She’s irritated a lot more
*Hands in mouth and chewing toys constantly
*dribbling and I mean dribbling!!
*rosy cheeks
*bumpy gums

I’ve read about the 4m sleep regression and her naps are broken up with some just lasting 10 mins ect but the crying is really getting to me as she’s usually a happy little girl. Her temp is normal, wet and dirty nappies are normal and she’s feeding well (bottle). She has started to wake herself up crying and sometime I really have to rock her to calm down and then goes straight back to sleep?

Any advice would be amazing! We’ve got teething granules (which don’t seem to work now), teething rings and teething mit. I will arrange an appointment with GP so check ears but I don’t have a clue what’s going on?! Help!!

I’ll add too -

I pick up, she cries, I put down, she cries. She smiles, cries, smiles, cries! She’s not normally a cry baby so making me paranoid she’s not well although I’ve one all the checks ie, temp, nappies, feed which are all fine!

Aww bless. It does sound like she's having a terrible time with teething. But a trip to the GP will confirm nothing untoward.

Calpol is good too. Teethers in the fridge are great. It will pass I promise. Thanks

@alliejay81 - gosh tell me about it. I didn’t think ‘teething’ would be this bad as I’ve heard it’s not painful, just uncomfortable until obviously the tooth cuts through?! But she is so unhappy. It’s either teething, not long enough naps during the day or she’s unwell but my head is scrambled at what more I can do so I think a trip to the GP isn’t a bad shout just so she can have a check up and get ears checked just incase. Poor baby. I feel so helpless and all I want to do is cry for her seeing her not her usual happy self😟😟! Thanks for your reply! Didn’t think about putting teething ring in fridge xx

Cheeks, dribbling loads, crying, chewing etc does sound like teething. DS got his first teeth at 4 months. When the teething gets bad, I keep him topped up on pain killers, use teething powder and gel.

Cj17 · 12/08/2019 22:40

@JoJoSM2 - I believe it to be teething as well but some people are making me worried it’s something else. Can never be too safe with babies I suppose!! Just feel so helpless! I’m finding the granules aren’t doing anything (they were but don’t seem to make it any better now?!) so May give the anbesol gel a go :)

See if that helps. I tried Anbesol on myself and all it does is slightly numb the place. Might be enough for just mild pains.

Eltay · 15/08/2019 09:31

Yep sounds like teething!
Heard the anbesol liquid is better than the gel but havent tried that yet myself as my DD is only 11 weeks

moonlight1705 · 15/08/2019 09:35

We use the Ashton and Parsons teething powder which DD absolutely loves and seems to have really helped take her mind off the pain.

Sounds like teeth to me as well. I remember my first baby had a tooth at 4 and half months old. That baby is now 21 years old!

Watch the nappies too. I remember teething went hand in hand with nappy rash.

Sounds like teething. My DS started at 13 weeks and it a challenge with him being so small.

I found the fridge teethers and most of the standard ones were too wide for his mouth. Also a lot of them rely on the baby holding it which he was too young to do. I ended up getting one from Amazon that’s like a dummy but has bobbly silicone instead of smooth called a Raz-berry teethed. Also bought one shaped like a banana that I could hold for him when cuddling. He is one now and still loves the banana one!
