Hello,

My 2 year old daughter has been having dark green stools for a while and today she had one which was black (see picture) she hardly eats anything so I know it's nothing she's eaten however she is on vitamins at the minute, has been for about a week.

Do I need to worry and call 111, or leave her?

She seems fine in herself.

Thanks

if I take iron poo goes black. How is she in herself?

SavagelyGardening · 12/08/2019 17:43

Has she eaten a lot of blueberries? Xx

Siankathryn0812 · 12/08/2019 17:44

She seems okay. A bit whingy but other than that she's fine.

Is there iron in the multivitamin?

Siankathryn0812 · 12/08/2019 17:45

Nope no blueberries at all. She has a very limited diet as I can't get her to each much, I think she's had some toast, biscuit and a milkshake today (strawberry flavoured)

Call as they will either set your mum Nd at rest, or send you for tests.

dementedpixie · 12/08/2019 17:48

They do have iron in them. Iron can cause black stools

mummmy2017 · 12/08/2019 17:48

Set your mind at rest.

My son had black poo and I totally panicked but then realised he’d ate a lot of his dad’s black pudding when we’d gone out for breakfast the following day. That was only a one off incident, so if she has been having strange coloured poo for a while, I’d definitely get her checked out just to put your mind at rest.

Mummoomoocow · 12/08/2019 18:08

A&e I’m afraid. Not enough iron there for a fully black stool. Black poo means bleeding in upper intestinal tract or stomach.

MoodLighting · 12/08/2019 18:16

Definitely get that checked out

Buzzfrightyears · 13/08/2019 09:37

How is she?

Siankathryn0812 · 13/08/2019 10:21

I called 111 yesterday evening and they said to take her to doctors today but I couldn't get an appointment this morning so have to call after 1 for afternoon block. She seems fine in herself but we'll have to see
