Do all chicken pox spots blister?

Anyone's kid had it recently- did all the spots blister and scab, or do some just come up as a blemish and then fade?

Ds exposed 2 weeks ago. I thought he was developing it but only 5 spots. Then 2 scabbed as i expected , but the other 3 just faded. I now think the scabbers must have been molluscum but swear he didn't have any molluscum on his tummy before and they usually take a long time to get to the scabby phase...!

I’m pretty sure at least a few on my twins were just red dots that didn’t blister but they had literally hundreds of blisters

Thanks. I really don't expect to get through chicken pox this easily after other dc experience. But would be nice to know if he's had it. And know it's not on the cards to mess up holiday plans over next few weeks...

Mine haven't had it recently but they certainly had some spots that were just red dots without blistering.

DC4 had only about 10 spots at 2 year old. I even took him to the doctors as I didn't think it was chicken pox. It was, just a mild dose, he went into get it again at four.

Yeah unfortunately the only child I know who had it really mildly got it again much worse a few months later. Hopefully that’s not the case for you!

TapasForTwo · 12/08/2019 06:24

DD only had it mildly the first time. Four years later she had it properly and was quite unwell the second time.

Canyousewcushions · 12/08/2019 06:27

Mine did that. We weren't totally sure whether it could have been chicken pox it was that mild.

2 months later she got it properly. Totally maximised the inconvenience doing it that way as obviously she had to be off nursery twice.

Canyousewcushions · 12/08/2019 06:28

But on the plus side we are now confident she's had it so likely to be immune.

SinkGirl · 12/08/2019 08:16

Honestly if I could go back I’d pay for the jabs - my twins were so ill, secondary infections etc. As a mild case doesn’t guarantee immunity I’d still do it.

perfectpanda · 12/08/2019 08:38

Yes I'm definitely thinking more about the jab this time. It can be such a nasty illness. And it's also nail bitingly stressful in the holiday season ( having had an older dc come out with the spots on the way to a holiday, we had to turn around and go home)...
