I posted about this a couple of months ago.

Near the end of May my 6 year old started being sick every 3-4 days. It gradually increased until it was 2-4 times a day in the middle of July. He was admitted to hospital in the last week before the school holidays and had an MRI scan which came back normal for him, just the mild brain abnormalities he's had since he was born. He also had bloods taken which showed he was a bit anaemic.

When the summer holidays started I started giving him food little and often which seems to have helped a bit. He is now being sick every 3-4 days. He's got an appointment with the paediatrician but that's not until 16th September. It's very similar to when my now 8 year old had reflux as a baby but can a 6 year old get that after not having reflux as a baby?

Just found out that Ds has been swallowing the sick back down quite a lot. I said to him not to do that and now he is throwing up 3-4 times a day again so hasn't actually improved at all.

Google cyclical vomiting syndrome - one of mine has it.

elliejjtiny · 10/08/2019 15:35

Thankyou. I googled it but the symptoms don't sound like ds.

Could he have a dairy intolerance?

elliejjtiny · 10/08/2019 18:36

Thankyou. Would he need to have cramps or the runs (sorry, can't spell the proper word for it) to have a dairy intolerance? He doesn't have either of those things.

Not necessarily. My teen was dairy intolerant when he was little: puked, refluxed, asthma, eczema, catarrh, gluey ears, but no diarrhoea. Appeared outgrow it. This year, 16yo, suddenly started refluxing again - triggered by dairy. Still no diarrhoea.

(Ps, autocorrect can spell that word WinkGrin)

Punxsutawney · 11/08/2019 10:20

My Ds had horrendous reflux all through his teens. He's 19 now and it's still bad. He has a hernia but he's been told there is nothing that can be done to alleviate his symptoms. He had 24hr pH testing and it showed he had reflux 97 times in 24 hours. He now has issues with the enamel on his back teeth. He's been discharged though and told to live with it. He takes ranitidine and drinks gaviscon.

It's not pleasant at all, I hope they get to the bottom of it for your Ds.

My 5 year old is under paeds for similar symptoms although she has a few weeks f being sick every 3 or 4 days then nothing for months. She was a premmie and had reflux as a baby and currently on gaviscon which seems to be working. Doctor seems to think that reflux on this age group isn't hugely unusual. Hers usually starts with an episode where her eating hasn't been "normal" so she had one at Christmas time and one after a family wedding

Thankyou everyone. @LifeIsGoodish I'm on my tablet now instead of the PC so I can use autocorrect and spell diarrhoea properly Smile.

I get so mad punx when a gp says nothing can be done, get him referred to a consultant, if you can pay privately it is under £200. Check out BUPA and the Spire websites to find a consultant in your area.

elliejjtiny · 12/08/2019 20:01

Oops, my youngest bit the post button. @Punxsutawney I'm worried about ds's teeth too. He already has teeth problems due to his cleft palate. My 8 year old had awful reflux until he was about 18 months and his milk teeth at the back are awful. My 13year-old has 1 tiny filling, my other dc haven't had any but my 8 year old has had loads.

@katycb I'll have a think and see if anything particular triggered ds to start vomiting.

Off to email the consultant to ask her about intolerance and reflux.

My ds has intolerances and reflux.

I kept a food diary and worked out what he was intolerant to (food intolerances can't be tested for unlike allergies) which reduced vomiting considerably.
He was later discovered to suffer from bad reflux and takes Omeprazole for that,

pikapikachu · 12/08/2019 20:47

Ds has lactose intolerance. When he drinks milk for example, his stomach would bloat like he was pregnant and he'd cry in pain. No diarrhea (according to him) but definite vomiting.

bobstersmum · 13/08/2019 13:54

My ds is 5 and has been on omeprazole for his reflux since last year, his symptoms eye regular random vomiting and what he used to call hurting burps, which I gathered must have been acidic. He is also dairy intolerant which we only discovered when the doc suggested cutting it out, he was having regular very loose stools, this all stopped after eliminating dairy. However he does now have the odd bit here and there, for example a tiny scrape of butter or a little sprinkle of cheese on a pizza, if he has too much he gets bloated and belly ache and feels nauseous.

elliejjtiny · 07/09/2019 22:19

Thanks everyone. Puking reduced to once every couple of days and now he is back at school it's back with a vengeance. Now at least 4 times a day, sometimes more, both at home and at school.
