Responsive feeding

DD is 5 weeks old and we have been following the guidelines of responsive feeding since birth. However she seems to only take little bits of a feed (30ml) and then go back to sleep for 30mins, meaning she is feeding nearly all day. Nighttime she is better and generally has 3 good feeds. Any advice on how to start breaking the cycle so nighttime pattern runs through the day as well?? Thanks

Do you mean feeding on demand? If so, I used to tickle my babies' chins a little bit when they got too sleepy to drink much. Feed her as upright as possible. You are bottle feeding?

Ok that's worth a go, yes we are bottle feeding

I well remember trying desperately to encourage one of mine to drink more during the day so I'd get more sleep. Of course you can't force them but you can certainly encourage them to drink a little bit more on day feeds.

You could try a slightly faster teat?

I struggled with this for a long time, every 30-45 mins my DS was feeding. Eventually I tried a bigger teat and it helped. He fed longer and started taking a full bottle about 7pm and then sleeping for a couple of hours.
