My partner currently has a coldsore and has done for the past 3/4 days. I have noticed my 3 month old has a red bit on the top lip with two tiny white heads on..... it's a coldsore isn't it? Please say it's not 😭 I'm panicking we're currently on holiday

Hi there OP,

We're just giving this a little bump for you in case anyone that can help comes along Flowers

We know you're on holiday so it might not be super easy right now, but we always recommend seeing a doctor, as they'll be best placed to give you advice.

Get to a pharmacist and ask for advice. Zovirax is the U.K. treatment of choice, but it might not be suitable for babies and/or known by a different brand name elsewhere.

HalyardHitch · 24/07/2019 16:34

See if you can see a gp for antiviral meds.

Not to alarm you but the first outbreak is the worst. My eldest got one at ten months and it got infected and required iv antibiotics.

Three months isn't a danger period for cold sores as far as I know but they can be nasty

I was under the impression that the first cold sore outbreak would consist of more reactions than just a spot on the lip. Has your dh been kissing baby or keeping his distance while he has his cold sore? They're transmitted by direct touch aren't they?

I second the advice to try to get to a chemist if you can.

Get yourself to a doctor asap

Booboostwo · 25/07/2019 09:28

Your baby needs to see a doctor ASAP. Where are you on holiday? Can the hotel help with finding a doctor? In many countries you can go directly to a pediatrician (e.g. France, Greece).

TheInvestigator · 25/07/2019 09:30

Oh no, get baby to a doctor now to be sure. How did he even catch it? Surely your partner has kept his mouth away from the baby.
