6 year old ds had communicating hydrocephalus as a baby/toddler but has been stable for nearly 2 years. He has vomited randomly about once or twice a week for the last month or so. No runny poo, doesn't seem ill. School insist he stays home for 48 hours after each vomit but moan about his attendance. I have contacted his paediatrician but she is on holiday. Has anyone else experienced this?

Go to GP could be compilobacter or h pylori which they can test for and treat

My son, now 9, does this. Still not at the bottom of it. I’m thinking it’s either an intolerance, or abdominal migraine but I’m not sure

Thankyou. Paediatrician came back from holiday yesterday and emailed me back. She said to keep a note of when he vomits and what he was doing to see if there is a pattern.

It's now getting worse, gone from once or twice a week to almost daily, usually 30 minutes to an hour after meals. Getting worried now and imagining all sorts. The school have agreed to ignore the 48 hour rule and we just send him in with a spare set of uniform.

Nearly 3 weeks later the vomiting is still getting worse, now 2-4 times a day. MRI of his brain showed the same mild abnormalities he was born with but no new problems. Blood tests showed he was slightly anaemic but liver/kidney function was fine. DS is really fed up with being sick all the time and all the tests have really upset him. Consultant is trying to sort out a time to see him in clinic but told us we might have to wait until September.

I’m so sorry to read this. It sounds awful for you all. Your poor little boy, and such a worry for you! Sending very unmumsnetty hugs and best wishes.

This must be so stressful for you all. It sounds to me like cyclic vomiting syndrome.

elliejjtiny · 22/07/2019 23:16

Thankyou

Poor DS was sick 4 times today and he keeps asking why the drs haven't made him better yet.

Ask for a test for coeliac disease?

MadamePompadour · 22/07/2019 23:25

Sorry, posted too soon.

Dd has coeliac disease and when it developed she started with sporadic vomiting often after meals and the vomiting built up in frequency. She was also anaemic and the anemia is a red flag for coeliac disease.

She was like this for years before being diagnosed.

elliejjtiny · 23/07/2019 10:56

Thankyou, I never thought of coeliac disease, I will ask his consultant. I can't imagine him being like this for years, your poor dd.

You could ask about cyclic vomiting syndrome. My DD used to have period of intense vomiting which they think is linked to migraines. It doesn't seem to be very well diagnosed in UK but our paediatrician at UCLH knew about it ( we had googled and found info and went in armed with 'could it be this' type questions as GP and local hospital were stumped).

elliejjtiny · 23/07/2019 22:37

Thankyou. I've added cyclic vomiting syndrome to my list of things to ask about.
