Molloscum advice

SarahTancredi · 25/06/2019 10:44

I've searched through some of the old threads and jabe tried a few of the suggested remedies yet nothing seems to be working.

Dd has a rather large one which overnight has gone from being soft and squishy to more swollen and firm. Does that mean its infected or is gonna pop itself? Would that mean as it's the main spot that it could be the beginning of the end if it pops?

Shes had it months and months now and still new ones are appearing Sad

My Daughter has been vaguely diagnosed with Molloscum. However this was initially diagnosed as chicken pox back in April. This meant my daughter hd 2 weeks off school 1 of which was unnecessary due to the 1st week diagnosis of chicken pox’s. Week 2 was re-diagnosed as Molloscum.
The spots scared but 8 weeks later 7 more spots appeared. She has since been diagnosed with eczema due to the constant itching all over her body and head that has been present throughout. I must also add she had Scarlet fever back in March. My request for advice is can anyone shed light on the constant itch and pale face appearance. As you can probably gather we’ve been constantly mis-diagnosed and fobbed off aswell as refused blood and allergy tests. Taken to A&E in order to bypass the GP and see a paediatrician. At my wits end my child is suffering and I’m looking to go private. Any advice or guidance would be appreciated

SarahTancredi · 25/06/2019 23:30

If shes itchy I'd try giving her some anti histamine.

I recommend some sls paraben free etc vegan skincare too. Dd1 has eczema many of the prescribed creams made it worse.

My personal recommendation is a'kin fragrance free body moisturiser.

Go the whole hog. Shampoo conditioner shower gel etc

Start a food diary wee if shes better or worse after certain foods

I'd also try some vitamins as she sounds like she has had a really bad run poor thing.

Try a different dr see if you can get those blood tests. With some emla cream its really not traumatic dd1 barely felt hers it's great stuff. Keep bugging the dr. Or maybe even change drs if they are that useless Flowers

My son has a few, the biggest ones we have popped and they have healed and gone away completely. When I researched it said there was a risk of scarring with piping them but it seems the best way to get rid of the worst ones

SarahTancredi · 26/06/2019 11:34

What's the best most painless way to pop them...

OP posts:
MissSmiley · 27/06/2019 12:01

Just pop them as you would a spot but be careful not to get the liquid on your ha damn and spread it because this is when they are most contagious apparently

SarahTancredi · 03/07/2019 10:38

Well I tried popping and didnt get anywhere and its been too sore to have another go.

At what point do you seek further medical attention took.its still inflamed and red and sore and a bit scabby

MakeLemonade · 03/07/2019 10:44

Have you tried MolluDab? It has worked for both of my girls in just a couple of weeks.

MakeLemonade · 03/07/2019 10:45

Scabbing is good by the way, generally means that one is on its way out.

SarahTancredi · 03/07/2019 13:37

I've been using a surgical wash and tea tree oil. It's done absolutely nothing. However this one spot is red raised scabby oozy painful and the skin around it red also.

SarahTancredi · 10/07/2019 13:20

Oh ffs

So the anti biotic cream has helped as far as the skin around the big spot. However the spots around the big spot are now looking worse Hmm

The big spot is still swollen and red

And to top it all off shes reacting to the plasters too Confused

Looks a right mess Hmm

OP posts:
CountFosco · 10/07/2019 18:31

Looking a mess is probably a good thing, DDs looked awful just before they finally healed up. She had them for ages. DS then got them but he has eczema and his healed up much quicker, I'm assuming his immune system got a better look at them. DD2 didn't get them but she's shockingly healthy and never gets anything.

BrokenWing · 10/07/2019 19:54

After 11 months of spots ds's all started to get big, bloody and oozy at the same time, then disappeared within a few weeks. Hopefully it's a sign her body has decided to start fighting them off.

We bought lots of small round plasters to cover the ones that were bloody/oozing so they didn't stain his school shirt/didn't spread.

They all disappeared just before one Xmas and he was ecstatic they were finally gone!

SarahTancredi · 10/07/2019 22:52

Oh god I hope so.

Not sure what's worse at the moment.the rash from the paster or the bloody molloscum..

Karwomannghia · 10/07/2019 23:04

My poor ds has them in an area you really wouldn’t want them poor thing when he was younger. The doctor froze a couple of the big ones and they all soon went.

Karwomannghia · 10/07/2019 23:04

Had them

SarahTancredi · 10/07/2019 23:07

Oooh kar your poor ds that sounds awful.

I asked the dr to freeze this big one off on the basis that it seemed to be spawning others which were creeping to said area you wouldnt want them. I was told they dont touch them

OP posts:
LoafofSellotape · 10/07/2019 23:15

My friend swears by digging out the biggest one with a sterilised needle which kicks the immune system into working and clearing them. No idea if this works, I was ready to dry it on ds but his suddenly cleared after over a year and a case of hand foot and mouth.

Karwomannghia · 10/07/2019 23:16

Yes it was horrible for him but he just wanted them to go. Did the dr say why not? I know they do go away eventually by themselves but why not zap them? You can get freeze kits in the chemist for warts maybe that would work?

SarahTancredi · 10/07/2019 23:21

She just said they leave them alone and that I could try molludab if I wanted but they wont prescribe. She also said they dont carry anything to freeze then at the surgery. I did think about a verruca spray thing actually but theres no way dd will let me loose with freeze spray or a needle on her

Hello,
I hope someone can help me,my 4 year old daughter has molluscum she’s had it for about 2years now with no sign of clearing up.
we took here numerous times to gp in 1st 6mnths and in end paid to go private as no1 new what it was.We eventually found out what it was and they gave us some great cream called eumovate which works wonders for her skin but doesn’t clear it up,It is only on her legs but now there getting to the point where there already coming out infected big hot red rings around them full of green stuff, she’s been on oral antibiotics numerous times which has cleared them up,but tonight another 1 has appeared.....Has this happened to anybody else????
Please helpconfused

Rhinosaurus · 22/07/2019 22:50

This is sometimes confused with molluscum by GPS
www.nhs.uk/conditions/keratosis-pilaris/

You could ask your GP for a referral to dermatology?

OytheBumbler · 22/07/2019 23:10

My dd has had them for about a year. I used teatree oil for a while which didn't do much.
Then a couple started becoming inflamed and painful.

I took her to the dr last week who gave her Fucidin H cream which is a steroid.

This has helped clear the ones which burst and I'm hoping her body will now start to attack the others. 🤞

Kazplus2 · 22/07/2019 23:15

Hi. Daily multivitamins worked wonders for us. Started getting them a few years ago, just s random few at worse but then started increasing in volume and were itchy ( I think for example during night when hot etc) so she would scratch and burst them. It was a pharmacist who suggested the daily vitamins. It too about s month to see a difference and two months later they are gone completely.

SarahTancredi · 06/08/2019 16:29

Ok so this is getting ridiculous now.

Every time we " clear" one with the antibiotic cream another gets really swollen and sore. I'm not sure if you can tell from the pic how swollen it is but there's a lump behind it. I dont want to waste more of the drs time but this is starting to become quite painful . How normal is this?
