2 week old possible chicken pox

So when my DD was born DS1 had already had chicken pox the week before she was born DS2 then got them after DD was born. She is now just under 3 weeks old and a water blister has appeared on her hand and now one on the top of her head! Would you suspect chicken pox and if so is there anything I need to do? When the midwife came round after she was born she told me to phone the doctors as babys can get them. Me stupidly hasn't phoned the doctors and I'm now wondering if I need to call 111? Any advice would be fantastic!

Thank you!!!!!

Just ring them

LittleMissNaice · 22/06/2019 20:21

Yes I'd call. She's tiny.

Given her age, I think it would be appropriate to call 111 - they'll be able to advise on out of hours gps etc.

Good luck - hopefully it'll all be fine, she should have antibodies from you to help protect her.

Yes I think under 4 weeks old you need to see a doctor

Definitely call out of hours.
I'm not immune to chicken pox, and when I was 38 weeks with DD2, there was an outbreak at school.
I had to contact the immunologist and was advised I needed to deliver DD2.
From recollection, the antivirals for chicken pox can be given as long as the baby is a week old?
In my case the issue was that I was not immune so DD2 wouldn't be immune so needed to get through the initial week.
In the end, no one got chicken pox, but they all got it at the same time a year later...

DS2 got CP when he was a week old as two year old older brother had them. I rang the GP and they said he wouldn't as he was bf, but he did. A very mild case of about a dozen spots. Now 14, he's never had them again. I've since heard tiny babies should be given anti virals but it wasn't something that crossed my mind and I'm a nurse seek advice
