Hi I was told yesterday that my daughter has Epilepsy she is 4 years old.
Last month she was found on the floor unconscious at nursery she had many tests and a few weeks ago she had an eeg and yesterday I was told she had Epilepsy they said that there were waves recorded on the right side of her brain.
We have been told that she now needs an Mri under general anaesthetic and she will need to have a sleep eeg.
We have not seen any signs of her having any seizures or any moments of her looking blank or not with it.
They have spoke about medication and said that she would be on them for a minimum of two years.
I made the mistake of googling last night and thre is so many different reasons a child could have Epilepsy that I got scared off when I read that between 40-80 children die every year.
I am worried and now don't know what will happen with my little girl

There is a very wide range of what epilepsy can mean for a child and their family and it depends a lot on what the full history and pattern is. So Did you get given any written info in your appointment? Information for Epilepsy Specialist Nurse services in your area? Often the most accessible group of professionals involved. Epilepsy services would expect to do a lot of communication with families early in diagnosis so don't feel you are wasting anybody's time by needing to talk about what happens next.

The Epilepsy Society is a reputable source of information. They have a page on SUDEP specifically here: www.epilepsysociety.org.uk/sudep#.XQu6xcYo9-E
There is also a helpline number on their website.
Remember that there are 600,000 people living with epilepsy in the UK so these deaths though tragic are far from the norm. I would say it is reassuring that your child is on medication, and the seizures are not very frequent based on how you describe things.

I was only told on Monday that she had epilepsy and she has been referred to our local hospital to see the epilepsy clinic we saw a neurologist at other hospital which she was sent to when she became unwell at nursery
They brought her back for an eeg which has showed waves on the right side of the brain I was told she had epilepsy and that she had been referred to our local clinic
That’s all we’ve been told except that she will most likely be medicated

As far as we are aware she has only had one seizure so far
