Hi, my dd been diagnosed with intermittent alternating exotorpia. Her tests outcomes wasn't great but i notice it about 35% of the day. She has been offered surgery to correct it. I'm not sure what to do as there's little information about it. Has anyone dc had the surgery? How was it and would you advise it? Has anyone dc not have the surgery and were they able to manage it? Although it's a safe surgery there's always risks. She is only 4. I fear i will fail her if i make the wrong decision.

Hiya my daughter had this surgery when she was 2 1/2 and she is 8 now. Hers was quite severe. They could turn quite far out and they started to turn up as well. I would say she was doing it 50% of the time.

She had previously had botox surgery at 18 months to encourage the eyes to work together.... It lasted about 6 weeks before it started turning again.

The doctor over corrected during the surgery at 2 1/2 which is normal, so for a long time after she was a bit crossed sometimes, but honestly I was happy when I saw that as it meant the surgery was still effective.

As I mentioned she is 8 now and the surgery is still effective.... Her eyesight isn't great.... We had to patch for years with not much effect and, she wears glasses, but cosmetically her eyes are almost always perfect. I would say that if she hadn't had the surgery her eyesight would have been effected. I would say in the last year or so I can see they sometimes look a teeny bit off... Only noticible to a mum I guess, nobody else.

I did add paragraphs🙄

The operation is a little bit more invasive than we were led to believe. The eyelids were very, very swollen and the whites of the eyes are blood red. Your little one might not be as bad though as mine had to have the out issue fixed and the up and down issue.
