8 week immunisations

My baby is due to have his 8 week injections next week and I’m feeling really worried and nervous about how he will be- will he be in pain and will I be able to console him.
He is already a baby that likes a good cry so any pre preparation me and my partner can do to get us ahead of the game is for the best.
Any advice or guidance on how your little ones reacted and any tips on how to make them feel better??

The only things I can think of to do in advance are

  • make sure you’ve got some Calpol or other liquid paracetamol for the MenB jab
  • don’t make any plans for 24 hours after, so if baby is feeling a bit rubbish you can just stay at home and have lots of cuddles.
My DD cried when injected but had stopped within a few minutes and I didn’t notice any after effects.

They can usually be consoled within about 5 minutes of cuddles/shhh-ing/jiggling/pacing. the pain only lasts for a few seconds when the injection actually goes in, a breastfeed or bottle helps too. After a while though little one can become grizzly or warm so definitely have calpol at home to give when you get back in the house. My ds had absolutely no reaction to his jabs other than crying when it physically happened.
