Tonsils always large (pic attached)

I noticed while playing doctors with DD one day that her tonsils looked huge. She hadn't been ill but I've been keeping an eye on them and it appears that they are always large for apparently no reason. Not sure if this warrants a trip to the doctors but feel worried that if she were to get tonsilitis and they swelled her airway would get blocked. Does anyone have any advice or experience of a child with permanently large tonsils? Thanks

My ds (just turned 5) has got enormous tonsils, they call them kissing tonsils. He's never had tonsillitis but since Christmas has been suffering on and off with not being able to hear properly and has had quite a few doses of antibiotics. He's also started snoring like a train and has episodes of sleep apnea. We had a referral to ent who did a hearing test which came back fine and recommended a sleep study because of the large tonsils. Dr said would probably need to remove them depending on the results of the sleep study.

Worth getting them looked at if he has any other symptoms. My ds struggles to get to sleep and even after 12 hours sleep seems tired and often complains he's got a headache when he wakes up in the morning. The large tonsils can really impact sleep quality.

Thank you for responding. I had her in bed with me last week because she had earache and she kept me awake with her snoring! I Don't remember her seeming like she wasn't breathing at any point though. She has never been the greatest sleeper, but she rarely seems tired. I have noticed that she coughs quite a lot, like she's trying to clear her throat and she eats slowly so I feel there are some issues but doesn't seem as serious as what has been happening with your DS. I will monitor and see how she goes for now. Thanks for your advice and good luck with resolving your DS' problematic tonsils!
