Train track braces after twin blocks

Hello, my 14 year old son has just finished the ‘twin block’ phase of his braces/ dental treatment and is now going to have train tracks fitted. At the moment his back teeth don’t sit together at all, which makes chewing hard. The orthodontist does not seem at all concerned about his back teeth not sitting together.

Has anyone else had experience with twin blocks and do the kids eventually get their back teeth to go together later on in the treatment. Feels like you take your child along and put blind trust in the orthodontists and pray what they're doing is going to work. Many thanks for any advice.

Just bumping this thread for you, @willow2220, in case anyone's around that can answer your query.

Hi OP, this is quite normal, the braces will be used to pull your sons back teeth together aswell as straighten them.

Did the orthodontist mention your son wearing elastic bands at some stage of his treatment to pull the teeth together more?

I hope he isn't finding it too achy. One the braces are on and hes used to them he will feel much better and will adapt to his bite all the way through treatment :)

My DD had train tracks fitted earlier this year (no blocks first though) and it goes through a few stages of flexi-wires before they get to the wires that fill in the gaps (DD had some extractions). She's had the first and second set of wires in for around 10-12 weeks each so far.

With her, the top teeth seem to have moved a lot in a short space of time to me obviously not an expert but the bottom teeth are not moving as quickly. I do know what you mean about not really knowing what is actually going on!

It breaks more than I was expecting. The ortho explained about the wires when he fixed it last time. I still feel fairly clueless.
