3 month old ill - am I overreacting?

I'm a first time mum (in case you hadn't already guessed!) and my baby has had a cough and cold for about a week. I took her to the gp Thursday and was told she should get over it herself but to bring her back if she got worse. She seemed to be ticking along fine until last night, when she cried inconsolably, refused to feed and projectile vomited. She woke up several times last night with similar symptoms, the only way I could get her back to sleep was walking and jiggling.

Today has been more of the same. I'm resorting to expressing and bottle feeding because she won't feed long enough to get the high-fat hind milk (green poo). We're also giving her Calpol which does seem to make her happier. She's just in a nappy and a bib - she was wearing a babygrow but then showed a temp of 38.5 which scared the crap out of me! In a nappy her temp is 36.7.

Usually she is such a contented happy baby who feeds really well. I'm definitely taking her back to the gp tomorrow, but am in two minds over whether to try out of hours doctor now. Any advice? I will fully accept any accusations of pfb syndrome - in fact that would make me feel much better!

I would have taken my PFB to out of hours doctors with those symptoms

Actually I'd have taken PSB and PTB (second and third born) too.

I would rather be accused of being anxious than negligent.

If you haven’t already please just go straight to a and e. Always better safe than sorry

111, I'd say. Or walk in centre. If she's inconsolable to the extent that there's no change in her cries when you pick her up, then A and E.

It’s a good sign that her temp is spiking but not staying high. 38.5 is high but i’d be more worried at 39.5 and not coming down post calpol. The crying sounds worrying but your post is a little contradictory, you say inconsolable then say she goes to sleep with walking and jiggling so it sounds like it is soothing her to some extent. If it was me I would wait it out but you know your baby and if you are concerned then go to out of hours.

With a three month old yes I would get it checked

Chocolate35 · 02/06/2019 18:59

I’d call 111. They’re great and will let you know if it’s considered worrying.

Thanks everyone for your replies. I spoke to a nurse via 111 who reassured me (although I'm still going to the gp tomorrow).

Sorry for the contradiction in my pos. , she's just such a happy baby usually that a cry that lasts longer than a few minutes of being picked up feels never ending to me! We are really lucky with this, I know that for some mums the crying we have had today is what they get every day.
