Baby isn't himself

Hi, my baby has just turned 11 weeks on Wednesday and today he's not been himself at all. He never usually cries but he's been really twisty and isn't taking his bottles very well, he usually has around 6 ounces but is having 4 at most and just starts to play with the teat in his mouth more than anything.

I was just wondering if anyone else has had this and if it's normal?? He's just entered the third leap according to the app I have so I'm thinking it could be that?

I've no idea what the third leap is but could it be he needs to go up a teat size? Mine used to do that when they were frustrated they couldn't get enough milk

lauren711 · 23/05/2019 21:03

Ah I never thought of that!! I just bought the size up the other day I'll give it a go thank you very much

Ignore the leaps app. It's all a load of rubbish and you'll over think everything.

Babies do have days when they are less hungry than others. As previous poster said, try a larger teat but also maybe just drop in to the health visitor and ask for advice if you can.

lauren711 · 23/05/2019 21:34

Yeah I think I might just be overthinking it slightly Blush I've swapped over the teats on his bottles for tonight and see how I get on with them, I'll definitely mention it to the health visitor thank you!!

lauren711 · 24/05/2019 05:07

@spugzbunny I’m so glad you said that. I’m so sick of people talking about ‘leaps’ as if they are a scientifically proven, accepted fact. What’s wrong with just accepting that babies have good days and bad days?

jollyohh · 24/05/2019 07:14

The leaps were spot on with mine. The wonder weeks app was great and really helped my sanity. It's based on research from 40k babies so a bit of basis.

But yes babies have good and bad days just like everyone else. Parenting is not linear that's for sure!

lauren711 · 24/05/2019 07:35

I totally understand babies like anyone have good and bad days, but this has been a few now and it has gone alongside the dates when I've checked. But each to their own I can see why some people might not like it, as with everything it won't work for everyone @Thatsnotmyotter

@jollyohh I agree! So far it's been fairly accurate with what it's said for my little boy and I think it has some really helpful information Smile

I'm going to disagree about the leaps app as our boy was to a tee what it was saying so when he was having a really bad phase we checked the app and sure enough it was a stormy period but I understand also why others dont like it.

allergyhelpnewbaby · 24/05/2019 19:14

Have you checked his temperature?

lauren711 · 24/05/2019 19:39

@Dad2017 I find it helpful as well, helps put some sense into why he's being a bit off!

@allergyhelpnewbaby I did the other day as he looked a bit pink in his cheeks but it was normal? Might check again later but he doesnt feel overly warm
