Loose nappies started Wednesday but we thought it was teething. She was still eating and taking milk as normal although a little fussy in the evening. She went to nursery on Thursday, same continued, they thought the same, teething, she ate even less but still little bits of everything offered. Friday around 2 am she had another poo explosion. Got that sorted and offered milk.like usual, she took a small amount and then seemed to get upset with it so.wouldnt take anymore. Because of all the poo nappies I couldn't tell if she'd peed or not. Last definitely noted was 230pm Thursday.

Went to the Drs yesterday and were told to do a water challenge at home as she wasn't drinking milk (only 100mls by lunchtime and refusing everything else) and the lack of definite wet nappies. This went well and she took quite a bit. She also took another 100ml of milk late afternoon, some banana, small yoghurt and a finger of bread and butter. She seemed to be getting less irritable so Dr said carry on offering little and often with the water and food etc.

230 she wakes me up, I change her wet nappy (Not very wet but enough to tell that's coming back) I offered milk and she just batted the bottle away. I offered Calpol as she seemed in pain but she didn't want to.know. Then she had another poo. By now they are just yellowy messes, not a lot but quite wet so they leak. She seemed slightly relieved after this and then took the Calpol offered. She would only have milk to drink.

We've woken at 6 as usual and she's been offered anything I can think of and she's taken 1/4 of a finger of bread, 3/4 finger of banana, and a nibble of an oat bar. Bottle, cereal and yoghurt were batted away but drank a.good amount of water.

She's definitely more tired and more irritable and generally upset. I'm happy with the water she's taking but how long do I let this refusal go.on before taking her to a walk in centre or something?

She's solidly built so she's not going to waste away in 24 hours but I'm not happy with her just drinking water and she's definitely not herself.

How.long do I leave it before going to a walk in centre.or something?

As long as she’s got wet nappies I’d give it at least 24 hrs. When you last had a tummy bug how quickly did you fancy food again? Particularly dairy. I’d stick with water, bananas and toast, maybe some plain rice if she wants it. Some probiotics might be a good idea.

Thanks, I'll see how today goes and possibly head somewhere tomorrow. I hadn't thought of probiotics so I'll have a look into that and see if she'll take something like that.

I'd avoid the diary in this situation especially when she can have alternatives. Mine (in a similar situation) developed lactose intolerance when we fed her too much yogurt brought a diarrhoea episode. Took years to get normal. Confused

Thanks for the heads up on that.

The only reason I went with yoghurt was because it's one of her favourite things and thought if she'd eat anything it'd be that but I'll definitely avoid dairy until she's settled from this.

Unfortunately we were abroad at the time with no access to a kitchen or home cooked food so yogurt seemed safe. If we were home I'd probably have gone easy on it.

Hope your little one feels better soon..

NHS guidelines just say to take to A&E if she's showing signs of dehydration, after seeking advice if she's under 1 (which you've done by GP) - I'd keep on offering little and often until either she seems better or gets worse. It doesn't matter too much if she's only drinking with no food. NHS don't advise any particular need to avoid dairy though, just sugary drinks (juice, fizzy, etc)

Keep pushing the fluids. Nobody feels like eating with a stomach bug. Her appetite will come back when she feels better. Just offer plain foods, biscuit, crackers, bananas in the meantime. As long as she is having wet nappies that's the important thing
