3 week old not passing stools

My 3 week old is exclusively breast fed & we've had plenty of wet & dirty nappies from day one. But we've not had one dirty nappy in 48 hrs now despite plenty of feeding (if not more than usual) Quantity & frequency of wet nappies has increased, & there's no signs of discomfort or straining as if trying to poo, just a little then lots of wind being passed

I've read that some ebf babies tend to not poop as often as they grow, but 3 weeks seems quite young.. this is my first baby so unsure whether to leave be or contact GP/HV

Any advice or experiences welcome

Yep my wee guy when he was 4 weeks old didn't poop for 11 days not constipated. Just using everything he ate. If you are worried mention it next time you see health visitor

Mine were ebf and regularly went 5+ days between poops. Remember to take a full change of clothes out with you for when it happens Grin

My ebf DC only pooed once every 6-9 days until we started weaning at 6 months. This started when they were 2 weeks old and I did have them checked by the GP who referred us to the paediatrician at the hospital just to check all was ok.

Their advice was that as long as there were plenty of wet nappies, that the babies tummy was not round and hard, no obvious pain and that the baby could pass gas, then all was ok. Breast milk is very refined and there can be little wastage.

I have to say that the weekly nappies we did get were quite spectacular Envy but it was just their normal pattern. Once they started on real food the frequency gradually increased and now I look back fondly on the days when stinky nappies were a once a week event! Saved loads of money on nappies, wipes and laundry too!

As your DC is so tiny, I would chat with your GP/HV just to check everything is ok, but hopefully it's just them settling into a pattern that works

Thanks for the replies, she's definitely not got a hard round tummy, or in any obvious pain & plenty of wet nappies. Am due to seethe HV in a couple of days so will mention it then
