Allergy Clinic at St Thomas’s London

Has anyone from outside the trust area been referred for specialist allergy care here?
We are stuck between a rock and a hard place with our pig headed dietician who only seems concerned about budgets Hmm There’s a doctor who runs clinics at St Thomas’s who we’ve been looking at a private appointment with, but I’ve since been informed that our GP should just be able to refer DS to St Thomas’s as an NHS patient, as he requires care from doctors with this particular set of expertise?
Any information based on your experiences would be much appreciated! I’m seeing our GP again next Tuesday to discuss it with her

I can't tell you anything about this particular allergy clinic but I have experience of transferring out of area for allergy treatment for my DD. We felt our local clinic weren't great so asked our GP to do a referral to another clinic in a different county. It was bounced back initially as they said they didn't do second opinions, but went through when our GP put it down as a 'transfer of care'.

Not sure if that helps but hope it works out for you.

PragmaticWench Our local trust seem to be consistently ignoring NICE guidelines, and disregarding research carried out by the godfather of paediatric immunology in favour of “this is the next clinical step” which actually means “this is the cheapest treatment option” Hmm As a result, DS’s life is being put in active danger in a childcare setting Hmm

I get it, it's really tough when you know better treatment is available on the NHS but your child isn't accessing it.

IntoValhalla · 03/05/2019 17:38

Pragmatic that’s exactly it.
It’s like they are saying “let’s just poison your kid to prove our point....then you can have the treatment he actually needs” Hmm

My dd has been to out of county allergy care. In fact, 6hours away from home. Make a case, and present to all. It’s worth it once you find the right team. Good luck.

Took my DC to St Thomas's/Evelina for an annual appointment throughout his childhood after not getting answers locally. Was referred by GP after asking. We live 200 miles from London but it was doable on the train for a day. St Thomas don't have all the answers either but they were the best I could do for my DC and they were certainly an improvement on local provision.
