pink cheeks in 9 yr old

I am trying to figure out why my 9 yr olds cheeks have been pretty pink recently. What happened was, back in March he got strep throat- went on antibiotics for it. At the same time he had some kind of long lasting cough virus. No pink cheeks yet. then we went on a trip to a warm place for a few days- and about a week after we got home he got some kind of fever virus for a week. During that time he had hot red/pink cheeks. We brought him to the doctor who said it was a virus that would pass on its own. The fever lasted about 5 days- and then he was a bit lethargic and run down for about two weeks after- and ever since the fever he has had pink cheeks. Some times in the day it goes away and I think it is gone but then it comes back- not related to sun exposure or exercise, worse in the evenings, less in the mornings. At first I though he had fifths disease ( "slapped cheek" ) but my sister's kids just had that, and she said the cheeks were bright red- not pink, and then it turned to a body rash- and then cleared up in a few days. Where as my son just has the pink cheeks coming and going for three weeks and no other symptoms. Luckily, as of this last week his energy is back in full force, no complaints of any pains, full of energy full appetite etcetera, so that is good. I actually made and then cancelled an appointment to have a follow up with a doctor because his pink cheeks went away after I made the appointment. But then this evening it is back. My husband thinks it is just because he had a few illnesses in a row and his body is still processing it. Every time I google pink cheeks fifths disease comes up. I have taken his temperature when he has these pink cheeks a bunch of times and his temperature is thankfully normal. I am considering taking him back to the doctor but I find doctors don't always do well with things that are not clear and obvious, and I suspect he will say as long as his other vitals are all fine there is nothing to worry about. My husband also thinks there is nothing to worry about- but I tend to over worry about my child's health. Anyone else ever had their kids have pink cheeks ( that lasted weeks and was not a sunburn or fifths disease) and what was it?

now I am re considering that it may be some version of slapped cheek- for those of you whose kids have had it, how long did the pink or red cheeks last?
Because reading more about it- my son did first have the fever headache sore throat, then that cleared and the pink cheeks stayed. Maybe it doesn't always have to go to the body rash. I just had thought the slapped cheek lasted a short time but doing more research it said it can last a few weeks-- it has been about three weeks he has had the pink cheeks- could it possibly be the slapped cheek virus? any thoughts?
