Baby rash and weird poo

Hello I'm hoping someone has experienced similar with their little one and can offer advise or put my mind at rest.

My 4 month old baby has had a rash in his torso for 3 weeks. It's lots of little red pin pricks, bumpy to touch. They are blanching and don't seem to be itching him. Doctors have seen him a few times, said it may be a viral infection.

Went to drs a few days ago as rash still persistent. He reccommended we try lacto free formula to see if it's an allergy. We are on day two of new formula.

Baby's poo has gone from runny and yellow to thick and a very dark green. Rash still there.

Is this something to worry about? He seems full of beans, although he isn't eating as much as normal.

Has anyone experienced this and what was the outcome?

Dark green can be caused by high iron. Maybe the new formula is higher in iron than the old one?

Lactofree does not treat allergy. Lactofree milk has not lactose in it, which is milk sugar. Allergy is caused by milk protein.

If the milk is actually not lactofree but an anti allergy one with broken down protein, then those usually causes green poo in most babies.

A change in milk could cause a change in output. It might settle after a few days tho so if he seems fine in himself I wouldn't worry too much.
However Lactose intolerance would be an odd diagnosis by a GP - I would seriously question the basis for that suggestion .

A small number of Babies have protein allergy (rather than lactose which is a sugar) but it sounds like your GP is fobbing you off.

If GP suspects such an allergy you should be referred immediately to a paediatrician. However it would be odd for CMPA to just suddenly start after 4 months - usually you would have other symptoms arousing your suspicion.

Do you have private healthcare? If you do, use it this week.

Otherwise insist on an immediate referral to your nearest Paediatric department.
4mo babies don't tend to have unexplained rashes for 3 weeks. Unless it is eczema for example - which could be caused by allergy but that could be to do with pollen or washing powder or your perfume or .....

See a paediatrician who can put your mind to rest or at least follow up properly.
