Bedtime Bottle Vom

Hi lovelies, putting the feelers out to see if anyone has been or is in the same boat.

So Aurora is 10 months and CMPA (Dairy Free Only). She has been doing fab with BLW, 3 meals, 1 snack in afternoon as lunch to dinner has been too long for her. However, the last 3 nights something peculiar has been happening. After her final bottle, which has always been at the end of her bedtime routine, she has thrown up everything. Everything from dinner all her bedtime milk. Thursday night she was still awake and in Dad’s arms, vomit everywhere dad, the room, her. Friday night she had been asleep for about 2 hours and coughed in her sleep and vomit everywhere in her bed over her etc. Then tonight, she had her bottle and we had our cuddle. She was falling asleep so I leant over to put her in her bed and vomit everywhere again. There has been no change in her routine whatsoever, she is fit and well in herself. She is eating maybe less than usual, but definitely not more. We thought on Thursday she had just overeaten, then yesterday was brought on by the cough... but 3 nights in a row?!?

I know no medical advice but wondering if anyone has been in a similar situation? We have contacted pharmacy, they said speak to gp, which is obviously can’t happen until Tuesday. TIA xx

What time is dinner and last bottle? How much is in the bottle?

Floozymum · 20/04/2019 20:58

I can't really help but my DS did exactly the same thing (although not CMPA) probably around the same time. Pretty much routinely he'd vomit up his last bottle, regardless if he was laying down or upright. We thought it was brought on by coughing, but actually it wasn't always the case, and he'd usually take on a bottle shortly after vomiting. It lasted around a week or two and I didn't go to the GP as I thought they'd just fob me off as he could eat/drink during the day. At some point I thought it was maybe a psychological response to not wanting to go to bed but I have done absolutely no research into that so I doubt that babies that young have that mental capability!

If it's at all relevant he does have a severe egg allergy.

Hope that it stops soon, that milk vomit smell haunts me still.

Floozymum · 20/04/2019 21:01

Oh and he is now 13 months and happily takes as much milk as he can get before and in bed without any vomiting issues!

Newbie1981 · 20/04/2019 21:28

My little one did that for two days and ended up being gastric flu.

MadeForThis · 20/04/2019 21:45

Teething?
My dd would puke once at night for a couple of days and new teeth would appear soon after.

DramaQueen101 · 21/04/2019 10:52

@dementedpixie sorry my notifications weren't working... 🤦🏻‍♀️ dinner is usually 5-5:15 and then last bottle is 7pm usually offered 180ml but only takes between 120-150. Once she's been sick she wants more milk.

@Floozymum it's so strange. First night we thought we had overfed her, she'd had purée as it was the last night of our holiday. Then back to BLW at home and still doing the same. I thought cough as the second night it happened once she was asleep. Then last night she barely touched anything. We tried the pharmacist and 111 online, neither will do anything cause she's tiny. Phoned 111 and they sent us to a dr who fobbed is off. It's mucous apparently. We shall see!!

@MadeForThis my mum has just suggested the same as she cut her bottom two in Jan but the top ones have been showing signs for ages but still not arrived.

I'm no expert but for now I'd go with giving her a smaller bottle. Perhaps only offer 80ml as a comfort and part of bedtime routine. It may also be worth not giving a bottle one night and seeing if it still happens.

DramaQueen101 · 21/04/2019 14:01

@SheldonSaysSo she's done it now after her lunch as well. Lunch was at 12, bottle 1:30. Coughed really hard then redecorated the lounge. Nothing has changed. Maybe it is a bug?

It may well be a bug if its happened at lunchtime too. Just keep an eye on her and make sure you finish meal times when she seems to have had enough (just for a while to see if it helps)

DramaQueen101 · 22/04/2019 10:01

@SheldonSaysSo well no vomit last night, at all! Which is a vast improvement! I am also wondering if she has had a reaction to soy milk; she's had it before but we've been using it more recently! 🤷🏻‍♀️

@DramaQueen101 yep, that was all

DramaQueen101 · 22/04/2019 21:14

@Newbie1981 she's just done it again after coughing tonight. Did your LO have diarrhoea at all? Aurora is constipated and I am wondering if that is part of it. We've been giving lots of water, some prune juice in water too, prune and pear purée in attempt to get rid of the issue. Also given her lactulose for 2 days now. 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️

I found it hard to tell if there was diarrhoea because the nappies suck in all the water, but the doctor treated it as if there was, with those sachet things, just take to the doc for peace of mind, they're happy to help x
